How did you find out about SMILES and how long have you been volunteering here?
I found out about SMILES through my wife, Sue and my son Alec they started volunteering their 20 years ago. My wife and I have been currently volunteering about three years now.
Tell us who your favorite SMILES horse is and a special memory you have with them:
My favorite horse is Buster. He’s my best bud when we do chores he starts nickering at me and comes for a cuddle and a free face rub before I can even do anything.
What is a memory with a horse, client, another volunteer at SMILES that you treasure?
Being able to work with Rodney and my client with Jean and Rose as my side-walkers in my first year at SMILES was a very special time for me. Just seeing the happiness and the laughter coming from my client made my day and my week and my month. My second year with Liz and Julie was just as special with our client. (Oopsie we did it again was a theme of her laughter being the gift that keeps on giving the best). Sorry for all the noise in class Katie B 😂
The memories are precious that you make volunteering at SMILES.
What is the best part of volunteering at SMILES for you?
Just being able to give back something for all the blessings I have had in my life to people that need our love and understanding is such a gift. Being able to care for the special horses we have been blessed to have in our care, brings me so much joy.
Do you think any of our SMILES horses reminds you of a famous celebrity and why?:
Bullet reminds me of royalty the way he controls his herd with such effortless energy. It’s amazing how he protects and walks with Sue when we’re doing chores. He’s such a grand old man.
A parting thought:
Finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t point out how Katie Boss set the hook out for me to start volunteering. I always tease her that she’s the best fisherman I’ve ever met.
SMILES is a special place. I have never been there without seeing everyone smiling. I will never give it up, as long as I can continue to come and help in whatever way I can. It is the most rewarding thing I have ever done ! Thank you for allowing me to feel the love that volunteering at this wonderful organization brings ❤️
