... Governor Hobbs...
"Stop the Sale of State Trust Land!"
A coalition of Southern Arizona environmental groups led by Save the Scenic Santa Ritas (SSSR) requested Governor Katie Hobbs to cancel plans to auction 160 acres of State Trust Land sought by Toronto-based Hudbay Minerals for its proposed Copper World mine.
John Dougherty, Executive Director of SSSR states, "Governor Hobbs has the authority to stop the sale of this land... and stop facilitating development of this mine that will export the copper overseas.”

You can help this effort by sending letters of your own to Governor Hobbs TODAY. Ask that she instruct Commissioner Sahid to reject Hudbay’s request to put this parcel up for auction that, if approved, would allow Copper World to directly access approximately 500 acres of land it already owns where it will dump mine tailings adjacent to Corona de Tucson neighborhoods and schools.

Water — Use It Wisely
Plant of the Month
"Wildflowers"
Seeds of Spring are Sown in the Fall
Water — Use It Wisely, a comprehensive community water awareness champion, launched in 1999, promotes an ongoing water conservation ethic among Arizona’s rapidly growing population. Since then, they’ve bloomed into finding clever ways to promote water conservation, including educating the public about native plants.
This year, as part of their Water, Plant it Wisley, initiative, they are giving away a Free Wildflower Seed Packet of their Plant of the Month.
You can get yours by signing up for their monthly newsletter, and they’ll mail you seeds to start your own spring bloom.
But here’s the catch: you need to plant them NOW.
Why Fall?
They explain it might feel strange to talk about wildflowers in the fall; after all, they don’t burst into color until February through April. But here in the Sonoran Desert, fall is the season to sow. Wildflowers are natural drought evaders. Their seeds lie dormant through our hot, dry summers until triggered by fall and winter rains. They stay small and hardy through the cooler months, then explode into bloom come spring. Planting in fall gives them the root strength they need for a spectacular show later.
