SUPPORT US

Help Raise $1.3M by April 15

Dear fellow Saint Patrick Catholic School Families & Supporters,

We need your help raising funds for our school capital campaign, Today's Vision, Tomorrow's Classroom. The Archdiocese of Seattle has informed us that if we can raise $1.3 of our $2.7 million goal by April 15, we can begin Phase 3 construction this summer! Every child who walks through the doors of our school will benefit from this.

Phases 1 & 2 have been completed, including a new roof and fully abated asbestos in the 2nd and 3rd-floor classrooms and hallways. The Early Learning Center on the 1st floor has yet to have these same improvements. The Early Learning Center is integral to our school, providing essential educational resources and support to our youngest students.

While our children are not in immediate danger, we can remove the last of the asbestos from our classrooms and hallways this summer if we raise the necessary funds by the April 15 deadline, with our students walking into a fully renovated school building on the first day of the 2023-2024 school year!

In addition to asbestos removal, scheduled renovations include the following:

  • Energy-efficient lighting
  • New ceiling acoustical grid
  • Flooring (carpet or tile) and painting
  • Upgrade all twelve 1950s-era bathrooms in our building
  • Providing necessary age-appropriate bathroom space in our preschool classrooms
  • Refreshing the center stairwell to bring it up to safety compliance
  • New furniture

Once complete, this will clear the way for replacing the single-pane lead-framed windows on the North side of the school in the summer of 2024, making our school 100% free of asbestos, safe for all who enter, and energy efficient.

This school is our legacy. As we celebrate 130 years of Catholic Education at Saint Patrick Catholic School, we owe it to our children to do better. Our community rallied at the 2023 R.E.A.C.H. Auction to raise money for security upgrades and campus safety enhancements. We are again presented with the opportunity to show our love and commitment by modernizing our building, bringing it up to the current building code, and making it physically and environmentally safe for everyone.

As school employees and parents of children here, we ask you to take a moment to think prayerfully about what this is worth and what you can give.

Sincerely,

Doug Babbit, Amalia Castelino-Bynum, Kate Chambers, Nick Conklin, Katrina Coovert, Wynter Dait, Minh Gavino, Hanna Graves, Kandi Hebert, Christy Johnson, Emily Keller, Abby McElligott, Joe Nikolao, Jr., Andy Noonan, Margaret Richards, Amy Sachwitz, Vanessa Suresh, Felipe Uc & Sarah West

STUDENTS & ALUMS

Alumni Spotlight

Shout out to Anya Ishida, Class of 2016. Anya graduated from Bellarmine Preparatory School in June 2020, the height of the pandemic, and was accepted into the United States Air Force Academy in August 2020.

Anya's mom Christa Ishida was a Saint Patrick Catholic School teacher for many years. She now teaches at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School. The Ishidas are long-time parishioners of Saint Patrick Catholic Church.

Hit the play button above to hear Anya's compelling testimony to the benefits of Catholic Education in a beautiful series from Catholic School alums produced by the Seattle Archdiocese Office for Catholic Schools.

Distinguished Alumni Spotlight

Fr. Peter Henriot, SJ, class of 1950, was honored as a Distinguished Alum in 2015! He was born in Tacoma and baptized at Saint Patrick Catholic Church. After graduating from Saint Patrick Catholic School, he continued his brothers' legacy and went to Bellarmine Preparatory School, after which he graduated from Santa Clara University.

Fr. Henriot joined the Society of Jesus through the Oregon Province and, after his ordination to the priesthood, served for two decades at the Center for Concern in Washington, D.C. This Center was founded by the U.S. Bishops and the Society of Jesus to promote research on economic, political, and justice issues. Fr. Henriot earned his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Chicago before moving to Zambia, Malawi. He served as the Director of the Jesuit Center for Theological Studies in Lusaka for 24 years, assisting church and government leaders in political and economic justice matters.

Fr. Henriot has published many books, including Catholic Social Teaching: Our Best Kept Secret and Opting for the Poor: the Challenge for the Twenty-First Century.

He is the founding Director of Loyola Jesuit Secondary School, a boarding high school for 500 girls and boys, under his tireless efforts to raise money and the trust of the Zambian Government.

In March 2023, he moved to Sacred Heart Jesuit Center in Los Gatos, California; home to retired Jesuits who served in 10 Western states and is regarded as the "finishing school," where Jesuits live out their final years with food, medical appointments, recreation, and spiritual guidance are provided there. Please keep Fr. Pete and his retired Jesuit brothers in your prayers.

First presented in 2008, the Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes outstanding alums who have impacted students and the community and made significant contributions to their profession and community service. By honoring our former students, we hope to inspire today's students to strive for personal and professional success.

Nominations are accepted year-round. The current Saint Patrick Catholic School faculty and staff select a recipient each September.

PHOTO HIGHLIGHT

Every year, the eighth-grade class at Saint Patrick Catholic School plans, prepares, and reenacts before their families and parishioners of Saint Patrick Catholic Church a “living” version of the Stations of The Cross on the morning of Good Friday. They exit the church in silence after the devotion. Their dismissal from school is also silent on Good Friday.

The interpretation of the passion of Christ includes traditional narration and guiding questions for prayerful reflection and acting out of each station. View photos
