Dear Parents and Caregivers,

September is National Suicide Prevention Month. By starting the conversation, providing support, and directing services to those who need it, we can all help to prevent suicide.

πŸ’œ This month, we highlight education to raise awareness and reduce stigma around youth suicide:

  • Ana Paula Garay, LMFT and Mental Health Lead for the Redwood City School District, joins us for Foro de padres #38 - PrevenciΓ³n del suicidio (en espaΓ±ol) (Suicide Prevention) (September 17). This event is offered in Spanish.

  • Pamela Morris-Perez, PhD, adolescent suicide expert and Professor of Applied Psychology, NYU Steinhardt, presents Suicide Prevention 101: Offering Hope for Parents and Teens (October 3).

πŸ—“οΈ Join us this week for special events on citizenry and design thinking:

  • How do we prepare children to be active participants in our democracy? Join Lindsey Cormack, PhD, professor of political science and author of How to Raise a Citizen (And Why It's Up to You to Do It) (September 11).

  • ο»ΏIn Assembling Tomorrow: A Guide to Designing a Thriving Future, Stanford d.school authors Scott Doorley and Carissa Carter explore how we can use design tools to shape our future for the better (September 12).

πŸ“Œ Mark your calendars for these outstanding events coming in September!

  • Frank Bruni, bestselling author, NY Times writer, and current Duke professor, joins us to discuss his new book, The Age of Grievance, in the context of teen behavior, family dynamics, and college admission (September 18).
