Mawlid un-Nabi Celebration Weekend

Fenton & Burton, MI

September 3- September 7

The Holy Dates of Rabi-al-Awwal 🕌

The month of Rabiʿ al-Awwal holds a special place in every Muslim heart, for it was on the 12th of Rabiʿ al-Awwal that the Seal of Prophets, Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, was born into this world in Mecca and, sixty-three years later, returned to his Lord in Madinah. This single date unites the two most significant moments of his earthly life, his arrival as a mercy to all creation and his departure to the eternal mercy of Allah ﷻ.

From this comes the tradition of Mawlid, the commemoration of the Prophet’s ﷺ birth. Mawlid is not simply a celebration, but a renewal of love and gratitude, a chance to remember his noble character, his mercy, and the light he brought into the world.

In the same month, we also mark the ʿUrs of great saints (awliya) in the Naqshbandi Golden Chain. Literally meaning “wedding,” ʿUrs signifies their union with the Divine at the time of their passing. Just as Mawlid celebrates the Prophet’s ﷺ entrance into this world, ʿUrs honors the saints’ completion of their journey and their return to Allah ﷻ.

Though the terms differ — mawlid for birth, ʿurs for death — both are occasions of remembrance. Each gathering rekindles our hearts with the example of those who lived in nearness to Allah ﷻ, reminding us to walk in their footsteps with sincerity, humility, and love.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

Born 12 Rabi al-Awwal 570 CE

Veiled 12 Rabi al Awwal 632 CE

All praise belongs to Allah, al-Qawiyy al-Ghālib — Strong and Dominant

Allah is al-Waliyy, al-Ṭālib — the Protecting Friend, the One Sought

He is al-Bāʿith, al-Wārith, al-Māniḥ, al-Sālib — the Resurrector, the Inheritor, the Giver, the Remover of our grief.

Allah is the Knower of all beings: past, present, and future

All glorify Him — the stars that set, incline, rise, and disappear

And all declare His Oneness — the one who speaks and the silent, the solid and the liquid.

The stillness moves by His Justice, and motion comes to rest by His Grace. Lā ilaha illa’Llah!

Allah, Al-Hakim, the All-Wise, manifested the marvels of His Wisdom and its wonders,

Arranged the forms of existence in orderly proportion,

Created the brain, bones, nerves, flesh, skin, hair, and blood in a harmonious system,

From a gushing fluid between backbone and ribs;

La ilaha illa’Llah!

Allah, Al-Karim, the Generous, spreads a carpet of provision and grants favors over His creation,

Each night He descends to the lowest heaven, calling:

“Is there one who seeks forgiveness? Is there anyone seeking repentance?

Is anyone in need, so that I may fulfill (the need)?"

Ta-ibuna ila l-Lah!

So if only you had seen the servants before their Lord, pouring forth streaming tears,

Standing between the state of remorse and repentance,

The ones, fearful for their own souls, reproach themselves, and they run from their sins towards Allah.

They remain in this state of seeking forgiveness until daybreak chases away darkness,

And so they will return, having succeeded in their aims, attaining the pleasure of the Beloved,

Not one amongst them would be disappointed; Lā ilāha illa’Llāh!

Subhanallah! Allah created the Light of His Prophet ﷺ from His own Light, before He created Adam from clay.

Allah presented the Pride of His creation before all others, declaring:

“This is the leader of all prophets, the noblest of the Pure Ones, the most honored of the beloved.”

He said, "From the presence of al-`Azizan there are two methods of dhikr: the silent and the audible. I preferred the silent because it is stronger and more advisable.

The permission for the dhikr must be given by the Perfected One, in order to influence the one who is using it, just as the arrow from a Master of Archery is better than the arrow thrown from the bow of an ordinary person.

He added Three Principles to Shaykh Abdul Khaliq’s ق Eight, Awareness of Time (“wuquf zamani“), Awareness of Numbers (“wuquf `adadi“), Awareness of the Heart (“wuquf qalbi“)

The author of the book al-Hada’iq al-Wardiyya, where he dove into the reality of silent dhikr and its method. He said: “In loud dhikr you have to use your tongue and people might listen to you and see you, whereas in the silent dhikr of the heart Shaytan might listen to you and hear you, What, then is the reality of ‘Call in the secrecy of your hearts?’ His shaykh replied, ‘O my son, this is a hidden, heavenly knowledge, and I wish that Allah ﷻ sends you one of his saints to inspire on your tongue and in your heart the reality of secret dhikr.’ One day he met Khidr who transmitted permission from the Prophet ﷺ to inspire the hidden dhikr of numbers.

One day Khwaja Mahmoud attended a scholarly gathering and was asked why he was doing loud dhikr. He said, “It is the best dhikr to awaken an outsider from his state of slumber and to attract the attention of the heedless so that he directs himself towards Allah in repentance, following the shaykh who is making dhikr, straightening himself on the Way, which is the key to all good and happiness. If your intention is correct you will find the authority to use the loud dhikr.”

Whenever they tried to draw his likeness on paper the pen would not write, or the next day the picture would disappear. He said, “I don’t want to be known in this world after I die, because I don’t wish for myself any form of existence.”

It's My Prophet's ﷺ Birthday!

Shaykh Abdulrahman al-Diba’i

Compiled by Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

This is a vibrantly illustrated book created by young Sufi artists from across the world, designed to bring the spirit of Mawlid alive through colors and imagination. It introduces the beauty of Mawlid al-Daybaʿi in a way accessible to children, families, and anyone new to this tradition. The book reminds us of the innocence of children—described by the Prophet ﷺ as “like fresh rain from their Lord”—and how their joy mirrors the blessings of the Prophet’s birth. Both playful and spiritual, this book is a gentle doorway into the love of the Prophet ﷺ for the whole community.
