Parent Connection & Conversation: Growing Learners at Every Age

Every child’s age is unique, and every child’s age is a wonder! Want to understand how developmental stages affect your child’s learning at home and school?

Join us for a parent night of community on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 5:00 P.M. to discuss common developmental characteristics for school-aged children! Using research from Responsive Classroom and Dr. Wendy Mogel’s book, The Blessing of a Skinned Knee, we will chat about how students develop self-reliance and find success at different age levels. Whether you have read Dr. Mogel’s book and would like to discuss, or you are interested in learning what is common among students in your child’s peer group, come listen and explore all the ways you can support your child with his or her growth while connecting with other families through sharing of ideas, resources, and fellowship.

Cultural & Religious Observances This Week

Diwali (duh·vaa·lee)

Diwali (also called Divali or Deepavali) is a festival of lights that celebrates the triumph of light over dark, good over evil, and the blessings of victory, freedom, and enlightenment. The name comes from Sanskrit dipavali, meaning “row of lights.” On the night of Diwali, celebrants light dozens of candles and clay lamps (called diyas), placing them throughout their homes and in the streets to light up the night.

In most of India, Diwali is a five-day celebration that peaks on the third day with the main celebration. In other places, only the main day is usually celebrated. Learn more here.

DĂa de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

DĂa de los Muertos is a time to honor and celebrate friends and family in the afterlife with their favorite things, including food and music. Day of the Dead combines the ancient Aztec custom of celebrating ancestors with All Souls' Day, a holiday the Spanish brought to Mexico starting in the early 1500s.

The holiday, which is celebrated mostly in Mexico on November 1 and 2, is like a family reunion—except the ancestors are the guests of honor. Day of the Dead is a joyful time that helps people remember the deceased and celebrate their memory. Learn more here.
