Celebrating St. Francis: Blessing Pets (& Lovies!) in Chapel
During the week of October 7, we will be celebrating the Feast of St. Francis, the patron saint of ecology and animals. Worldwide, communities bring their pets to church on this day to receive blessings.
This year, at St. Benedict’s Episcopal School, we’re asking for families to submit pictures of pets (and lovies!) for a special blessing.
Students in PK3s through 5th Grade: By Monday, October 7, 2024, please send a picture of your family’s pet or child’s beloved lovie to school in their daily folder or agenda. On the back, write your child’s name and the name of the pet and/or lovie. Please be mindful that these pictures will not be returned. We cannot print pictures at school.
Middle School Students: Please plan to bring a picture of your beloved pet to chapel on Thursday, October 10, 2024.
Chapel services for the 2024 - 2025 school year:
- 1st/2nd/3rd - Tuesdays at 8:20 A.M.
-
4th/5th - Wednesdays at 8:20 A.M.
-
PK3/PK4/K - Wednesdays at 9:15 A.M.
-
6th/7th/8th - Thursdays at 8:20 A.M.
If you are a parent attending Chapel, please park at the Hive or South Campus.
For parents of PK/K students, we ask that you only attend when your child is celebrating a birthday or serving as a chapel helper. The younger children tend to be harder to separate at the end of the service. Thank you for your support.
When registering for chapel services, please be sure to input your email in all lowercase letters.

Why is Hispanic Heritage Month So Important?
Latinas and Latinos have always played significant roles throughout our country’s history, dating back to the American Revolution. Hispanic Heritage Month is important because it provides an opportunity to celebrate the Hispanic/Latino community's integral part in growing and strengthening our democracy.
Representation matters. Latinos and Latinas continue to shape our nation as business owners, activists, artists, public servants, and more. From serving in the U.S. military to championing civil rights, Latinas and Latinos remain strong leaders and changemakers.
It’s crucial to ensure that the Latino community's contributions are showcased and that Latinas and Latinos have a voice. According to 2020 data from the U.S. Census Bureau, one in every four children in the United States is Hispanic/Latino. A recent study found that Latino history is largely left out in high school textbooks that are used across the United States despite the increasing percentage of Latina and Latino students. This also comes when the economic output of American Latinos would rank fifth in the world if the community were an independent country. As the country continues to increase in diversity, it’s necessary for all citizens to learn more about American Latino experiences to recognize and value the many contributions Latinas and Latinos have made.

Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to spotlight the unique voices and experiences of Hispanic/Latino Americans and recognize their history, journeys, and achievements. Through these celebrations, we can all help inspire younger generations and bring communities together.
Learn more about why and how we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
