2026 NJDOT Complete Streets Summit Recap


On April 21, the NJDOT Bicycle and Pedestrian Resource Center hosted the eighth New Jersey Complete Streets Summit.  


Centered on the theme “Every Journey Safer,” the summit convened more than 250 planners, engineers, students, municipal leaders, and advocates from across the state to share ideas and advance safer, more accessible streets for all.  

VTC Takes on the NJ TransAction Conference!

In April, VTC staff showcased work in public engagement, Complete Streets and roadway design, school zone safety, micromobility, and e-bike safety at the NJ TransAction Conference in Atlantic City. Check out some photo highlights! 

What is a Target Zero Rapid Response Program?


A Target Zero Rapid Response Program aims to improve roadway safety after fatal and serious injury crashes by supporting quicker, more coordinated responses. The approach centers on on‑site crash reviews by multidisciplinary teams to identify causes and identify immediate safety improvements.  

As New Jersey moves from planning to action, VTC is working to help advance this approach across the state. 

NJDOT Tech Transfer Launches Redesigned Website


NJDOT’s Technology Transfer program has launched a redesigned website that improves access to transportation research, training, and innovation resources. Developed with support from VTC, the updated site features research summaries, Tech Talk! webinars, and implementation tools that help transportation professionals apply new ideas and proven practices across New Jersey.




The 2025 New Jersey State Plan: A Transit-Friendly Perspective



NJTOD examines the newly adopted New Jersey State Development and Redevelopment Plan (2025) through a transit-supportive lens. The plan emphasizes housing in transit-rich locations, compact growth, and coordinated state and local policies that support walkable downtowns and stronger transit networks, and explores policy tools—such as zoning reform and value capture—that could help translate the plan’s goals into action.

Putting the Focus on School Zones and Youth leadership: A Recap of the 2026 NJ Safe Routes Academy


The 2026 New Jersey Bike & Walk Summit, hosted by the NJ Bike & Walk Coalition, brought together participants from across the state to focus on advancing bicycle and pedestrian safety. Elected officials, planners, community advocates, and researchers engaged in discussions and shared strategies for creating safer, more walkable communities and elevating youth leadership in transportation decision making.


Sammy the Squirrel Goes to NJ TransAction


Sammy the Squirrel, the NJTPA's outreach helper, made their debut at the NJ TransAction Conference in Atlantic City! Between presenting, networking, and learning from experts across the state, Sammy made the most of his time there. Sammy shares their experience on the VTC blog, including pictures from the conference!



From Net Zero to Target Zero: The Role of E-Bikes in Advancing New Jersey's State Priorities


Micromobility options such as e‑bikes directly advance many of New Jersey’s transportation, environmental, and public health goals by providing a low‑emission, affordable, and accessible travel option. 


Empowering Mobility: The NJTIP Passaic STEP Paterson Success Story


Our recent "Transit 101" session truly highlighted the community's enthusiasm for learning, with 35 engaged participants joining us to master the fundamentals of safe travel. We then took that knowledge on the road with a guided bus trip to Glen Rock
