Transforming Communities –

One School at a Time.

The Carnevali Foundation has recently modified its Mission Statement to “Transforming Communities - One School at a Time”.

A phrase that we believe fully encompasses our approach. In fact, over time, our charitable work has evolved to include adults who work and live in the school community or reside on our campuses. In this Newsletter, we share some of their stories.

We’re seeing more of our neighbors enthusiastically join the programs and events hosted at our schools. All of our Schools have an “Ayah” and “Watchman” to make sure the campus is clean and secure.

The family above shows Mom, Dad and their two daughters (photo taken at Maktha School last spring). They are provided with basic housing, access to clean water and the opportunity to share in the mid-day meal.

The government Education Office provides 2 uniforms for all students attending government schools. We’re delighted to share that their eldest daughter has begun Nurse Training through our Vocational College program, and we’re hopeful that her younger sister will also have the chance to continue her education in the years ahead.

Improving Living Conditions

The Ayah and Watchman at our Shiva Nagar School have two children. They are pictured here with Jackie holding their baby in front of their room under a dark stairwell where they were initially housed.

Wanting to improve their living space, the Carnevali Foundation was able to bump out the back wall and add a window. This added natural light and much needed additional space.

Today, like our other resident Ayah and Watchman, they are able to feed their family, have access to clean and potable water, and reside in a private, safe space.

We are proud to have made a positive impact on their lives!

Thankful for Campus Care

The Ayah from Papireddy Nagar takes care of cleaning the campus. In the photo above, she is showing Jackie and Chandrasekar (our Operations Manager), the condition of the boys’ toilets.

Toilets include urinals, squat toilets and hand wash sinks. It is a big and important job which the Ayah manages with her husband. Both live on the campus and have friends in the neighborhood. This Aya recruited parents for our very first Adult Literacy Class which started 4 years ago.

Literacy Program Successes

At the end of the year during Annual Day Celebrations, ladies who have participated in the Literacy Program are acknowledged with certificates for having attended our program.

At the next celebration, we plan to provide them with a small gift and awards to better recognize their amazing achievements and encourage further participation.

Just look at those smiles!

Moms Learn Telegu

The Ayah from our MA Nagar School is learning to read as part of our after school Literacy Program.

For two years, mothers from the local neighborhood have been learning the fundamentals of Telegu (the local language). Initially they were learning letters, but has expanded to words and now sentences!

The Ayah also takes part in our Sewing Classes and made the beautiful dresses she and her daughters are wearing.

Shaping Futures

This Grandmother joined our program a year ago and brings a lot of fun to the After School Literacy Class for Adults.

She beams with pride at having learned the letters of the English Alphabet…and she sewed the sari she is wearing!

Yet another tangible example of how we, at the Carnevali Foundation, don’t just build schoolsWe help shape futures!
