Kava is the common name for Piper methysticum, a member of the Piperaceae (pepper) family, making it a close relative of black pepper (Piper nigrum). For hundreds of years Kava has been used as a traditional medicine in the Pacific Islands.
The maca plant is sometimes referred to as Peruvian ginseng. Populations in Peru have used maca for thousands of years for both food and medicine. The maca root contains bioactive compounds, including macamides, macaridine, alkaloids, and glucosinolates, which are responsible for many of it’s medicinal benefits
