The Point in Time (PIT) Count is a nationwide HUD-required census of individuals and families experiencing homelessness—both sheltered (in emergency shelters, transitional housing, or safe havens) and unsheltered (living outdoors, in cars, tents, abandoned buildings, or places not meant for habitation).

Volunteering for the PIT Count is more than a community service—it's an act of compassion, advocacy, and empowerment. The data collected directly influences funding, services, and policy decisions that impact thousands of individuals across Northeast Florida.

By joining us, you’re helping ensure no one is overlooked and that our community has the accurate information needed to build stronger pathways out of homelessness.

The count happens across four counties: Duval, Clay, Nassau, and Baker.

• Volunteers can choose to work in one of 18+ geographic zones to ensure full coverage of the region.

• Shifts will be 4AM - 8AM and 6AM - 12PM, depending on the zone and team assignment.

• Volunteers work in small teams and participate in respectful, trauma-informed engagement while conducting short surveys.

Every volunteer must complete a 1 to 1.5-hour training before participating. This training covers safety, engagement tips, survey procedures, and what to expect during the count.
