| | March 2025 Angel of the Month | Megan S. | | |
Spring is upon us, and like our March Angel of the Month Megan S., never seems to disappoint. Every spring, flowers start to bloom, the weather gets a little warmer, the days get a little longer, and every shift, Megan shows up to make our clientsâ lives better. Since joining our outstanding caregiving team here at Visiting Angels Newton/Canton a little over a year ago, Megan quickly made the career transition from publishing to award-winning care professional.
Prior to becoming a Visiting Angel, Megan spent over 30 years as a managing editor for various tech publications. Her transition to home care has been about as successful as any of us could have hoped.
For Senior Case Manager Elizabeth Quagraine, Meganâs reliability and punctuality provides the foundation for forging a strong relationship with the client. âFrom a case management perspective, client satisfaction starts and ends with someone being there when you say theyâre going to be there, and Megan is always there ready to work. What more could we ask for? A lot, but Megan does all those things really well, too!â Elizabeth quipped.
Congratulations, Megan! Your reliability, compassion, and seamless transition from publishing to caregiving have made a truly remarkable impact on our clients and team.

A Spa Day Can Help Your Senior Feel Happy and Relaxed
Everyone deserves a little pampering, and seniors are no exception. Spa treatments, either at home or at the salon, arenât just about looking goodâthey can help reduce stress, foster a sense of connection, and boost a seniorâs confidence.
Visiting Angels can make a spa day extra special for your senior loved one. While we donât offer spa services, our caregivers can help set up a relaxing space, ensure their comfort, or transport them to a salon to enjoy their spa âglow-up.â
Dedicating time to self-care can make a world of difference and can be a fun, meaningful activity for seniors. After all, weâre never too old to be pampered.
How Spa Days Can Improve Mental Health
Many seniors face obstacles in maintaining self-care routines. For example, arthritis might make it painful to hold a hairbrush, or mobility limitations can make getting to the hair salon a challenge.
Regular self-care can improve hygiene and help seniors feel refreshed. Looking good can translate to feeling better. Small touches, such as styled hair or polished nails, can give seniors a confidence boost.
Self-care isnât just for women. Men may be interested in a beard trim, scalp massage, or new haircut. Some may also enjoy manicures, pedicures, and facials, as well.
Spa days can also break the monotony of daily routines, offering an opportunity for social interaction. Whether chatting with a stylist or bonding with family or a professional caregiver, these moments of connection can help reduce loneliness and foster a sense of belonging.

Celebrating National Social Work Month: Supporting Seniors and Their Well-Being
March is National Social Work Month, a time to honor the compassionate professionals who make a difference in the lives of individuals and familiesâespecially seniors. Social workers are instrumental in helping older adults navigate complex healthcare systems, access vital resources, and ensure they receive the support they need to live safely and comfortably.
For many seniors, remaining in the comfort of their own home is a top priority. Visiting Angels Newton/Canton is proud to provide personalized home care services, offering assistance with daily activities, companionship, and specialized care tailored to each individualâs needs. While social workers help connect seniors with essential services and advocate for their well-being, home care providers like Visiting Angels Newton/Canton help make aging at home a safe and fulfilling reality.
This March, we celebrate the dedication of social workers and their invaluable contributions to senior care. Their advocacy and commitment help shape a world where older adults can age with dignity, independence, and the highest quality of life.

Heartwarming Charity Helps Senior Citizens Find Loving Homes For Their Pets Before They Pass
By newsbreak.com
| |
When Angela Rafuse decided to adopt her grandfatherâs pet cat after the senior passed away in 2019, she had no idea that this act of kindness would lead to her starting her own charity. All she knew was that Mackenzie, a 14-year-old feline with a cantankerous attitude, needed a new home. Since no one else in the family was willing to put up with the animal, Angela took her in. It wasnât until she began posting videos of the cat online that she realized what a common situation this was.
As Angela shared her adventures with Mackenzie on social media, she learned from commenters that many seniors struggle with what to do with their pets when they are no longer able to care for them. This gave the woman an idea. What if she created an organization to help elderly animal owners rehome their companions? Fast forward to 2025, and the charity is celebrating its 300th adoption!
Angela shared a sweet video on social media celebrating this impressive milestone with a big â300â made of balloons. In the clip, she decorated the inflatable display with photos of the adorable pets sheâs helped rehome!
In honor of the feline who initially got the ball rolling, Angela named her organization My Grandatherâs Cat. She told the beautiful story of how this surly kitty inspired her to help seniors find new families for their pets on the charityâs website.
