Staff and Board Changes

Announcing the addition of Bailey Szamski from Professional Pharmacy in Essex, MD, to our team! Bailey will be our new network facilitator and program champion for our ELV program in Maryland. Pioneer pharmacies enrolled in the ELV program should expect a call or email from Bailey within the next month to schedule a visit to the pharmacy to review the program, including recent changes. Please welcome Bailey to our incredible team!

Also, please welcome Adel Pereira from East Pines Pharmacy and Medical Supplies. Adel is a recent graduate who worked at East Pines while a student pharmacist. We are excited to add Adel as a Luminary to the CPESN DMV Board.

One-Page Information Sheet

Selected network pharmacies have been invited to early enrollment. The remaining network pharmacies will be able to enroll in the next few months. This is a NEW CMS program, and there are many unknowns, questions, and things still being developed.

Please attend the All-Member meeting if you would like more information about this program and have not yet attended any webinars on this topic. There are recordings of past webinars.

Expanded Vaccination Authority for Pharmacists

Effective April 25, 2024, Maryland law was amended (Chap. 232) to expand State vaccination authority for pharmacists. Specifically, Health Occ. Art., Sec. 12-508 now permits pharmacists to administer the following without a prescription:

  • To an individual at least 3 years old, an influenza or COVID vaccine, or a vaccine authorized during a public health emergency.
  • To an individual 7 years old or older, any vaccination recommended by the CDC's Advisory Council on Immunization Practices, or any FDA-approved or authorized vaccine.
  • To adults only, any vaccine recommended in the CDC's Health Information for International Travel.

Please note that pharmacists who vaccinate must still be registered with the Board and meet eligibility requirements, to include: a 20-hour ACPE practical training program; active CPR certification obtained through in-person instruction; and completion of 2 ACPE continuing education credits related to immunizations every renewal period after registration.

Existing recordkeeping and reporting requirements have not changed, including reporting to Immunet, vaccine-specific protocols, visit summaries, patient referrals, patient consent, and disclosures. Please reference Health Occ., Sec. 12-508 for the full text of the amended statute. The Board will be revising certain provisions in its vaccination regulations, COMAR 10.34.32, in order to align with the new legislation.

ACTION NEEDED!

ELEVANCE Pharmacies - accessing your patient lists required you to log into my.cpesn.com, enroll in Business Intelligence, and opt in to share your data with your pharmacy software system. You will receive an email to set up your "MoveIt" account. You will no longer receive an email from me with the Excel file! Please attend the meeting this Sunday for more information, or attend the next clinical programs meeting on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 8 am ET.

my.CPESN.com is where you will update all your pharmacy information. This functionality is also how you access your ELV patient lists.

LOG IN TODAY! Please let Dixie know if you have any issues.

EVERY pharmacy should join Business Intelligence (BI) by logging into my.cpesn.com and going to Special Purpose Programs. Click "Subscribe" under BI. This is included in your monthly participation fee. This functionality is the way that patient lists will be distributed in the future from CPESN USA national programs (like Elevance). You will also have access to patient lists to optimize your Med Sync program and identify patients who could qualify for Pharmacy Care at Home.

Community Connected

Don't forget, tonight is the June Community Connected Webinar! Are you registered to attend? Participants must register for a unique link to attend.
