Traffic Signal Updates and Reporting
On March 23rd, the City Council approved a $250,000 plan to improve Simi Valley’s traffic signals over the next 10 years. These upgrades will help keep signals working safely and reliably across the City.
At the same time, SiFi Networks is nearing completion of a new fiber-optic network as part of the FiberCity project. When this work is complete, all 121 traffic signals will be connected. This means City staff will be able to monitor signals from City Hall and receive alerts right away if something goes wrong.
How You Can Help
The new system is not active yet, so we still need the community to report issues.
- If you see a traffic signal not working or flashing red, report it by calling the Traffic Division at (805) 583-6777 or using the “Report an Issue” tool on the City’s website.
- If a traffic signal is dark and without power, and it's after 5:30 p.m. or on a weekend, please call the Simi Valley Police Department non-emergency line at (805) 583-6950.
Thank you for helping keep Simi Valley streets safe 🚦

In 2025, Simi Valley supported 296 filming days across 87 productions. This brought in more than $5.25 million to the local economy.

Keep Pool Water Out of Storm Drains
Did you know that taking care of your pool or spa helps keep our environment clean? Residential swimming pools and hot tubs use chemicals like chlorine and copper-based algaecides to keep the water clean. If these chemicals enter storm drains, they can harm the environment. Pool and spa owners can help prevent pollution by following best management practices during maintenance.
Follow these simple pool and spa safety tips to help prevent pollution:
- Get a free permit before draining your pool.
- Keep pool water away from dirt, grass, and debris when draining.
- Never dump filter materials into the street, gutter, or storm drain.
- Place used diatomaceous earth filter material in a bag and throw it in the trash if it does not contain harmful chemicals.
Get a free pool drain permit by calling the City's Public Works Department at (805) 583-6786 or apply online at https://selfservice.simivalley.org.
For Online Permits:
- Start by visiting the City’s Self-Service Website
- Click “Apply”
- Search for “Public Works - Pool Drain Permit”
- Click “Apply” on the permit application to start the process
Saltwater pools or spas cannot be drained to the storm drain system. A special discharge permit must be obtained to drain the pool to the sewer system. Please call (805) 583-6420 for more information.

Plan Ahead for Earthquake Safety
April is Earthquake Preparedness Month, a time to learn about earthquake risks and get ready before one happens. Earthquakes can strike without warning, but being prepared can reduce injuries, damage, and loss of life.
Unlike storms, earthquakes give little to no notice. In some areas, even a few seconds of warning is rare. That’s why planning ahead is so important. After a quake, you may face power outages, damaged roads, and limited access to emergency services for days or even weeks.
How to Prepare:
- Create an emergency plan
- Build an emergency kit
- Secure your home and workplace
- Practice “Drop, Cover, and Hold On”
- Plan for children, older adults, and pets
Earthquake Preparedness Month is a reminder, but preparation should happen year-round. Small steps now can make a big difference later. Being prepared helps you stay calm and protect yourself and others.
