Marceaux to perform Sept. 30, 2021
at Hagerstown Community College
Hagerstown Community College will host Marceaux on Thursday, September 30, at 7 p.m., in the Kepler Theater.
Marceaux synchronously combines classical, jazz, and other genres into entertaining and affecting musical performances. Danny Webber (guitar), Candice Mowbray (guitar) and Anita Thomas (woodwinds) bring their unique individual experiences into creative collaboration as they perform classic and contemporary music, their own arrangements, and original compositions. Webber is an associate professor of music at HCC and Mowbray is a part-time music instructor at HCC.
From the energy of Khachaturian's "Masquerade Waltz" to the joy of Ralph Towner's "Icarus," the nostalgia of classic French melodies, and the evocation of landscapes in Thomas' original composition, "Australian Mood," audiences are led on an inspiring musical journey.
Sponsored by the HCC Robinwood Players Theater Club and funded by the Maryland State Arts Council, this event is free and open to the public. Masks are required. For more information, contact Danny Webber at 240-500-2406. To learn more about the band, visit www.candicemowbray.com/marceaux.

Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, Hagerstown, MD presents
BOUKE DE VRIES | War & Pieces
September 18, 2021–March 20, 2022
The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts’ iconic Schrieber Gallery will be stunningly transformed this fall with the installation of War & Pieces—a work by internationally known London-based Dutch artist Bouke de Vries.
War & Pieces is a 24’ long “tablescape” created from fragments of porcelain arranged to form an epic battle scene. The focal point of the installation is a soaring mushroom cloud created from fragments of porcelain figures, including the Chinese goddess of compassion Guanyin and the crucified Christ, who rise above the debris-strewn battleground. Created as a contemporary evocation of the spectacular arrangements that adorned 17th- and 18th –century banquets, the installation, has been described as “spectacular,” “remarkable,” “not to be missed,” “epic,” “intricate,” “dramatic,” “witty and sly”—and “a masterwork” by art critics and the public. The exhibition is currently touring North America.
In Bouke de Vries’ largest work to date, War & Pieces combines the discarded ceramic remnants from the artist’s work as an art conservator, and infuses them with emotion, history, and craft eluding to a wasteland that is both historical and ever present. Originally commissioned by the Holburne Museum in Bath, England, in 2012, War and Pieces has traveled throughout the UK, Europe and Asia. The North American tour of Bouke de Vries: War & Pieces has been organized by Ferrin Contemporary.

Zoso: The Ultimate Led Zeppelin Experience
Friday, October 8, 2021 at 7:30 PM
| |
Zoso: The Ultimate Led Zeppelin Experience formed in 1995 to perform the most accurate and captivating Led Zeppelin live show since the real thing. For Zoso, it’s much more than just being a tribute. It’s about touching a golden era in music. Zoso embodies Page, Plant, Bonham and Jones in their spirit, tightly wound talent, and authenticity. Each band member has been carefully selected to portray both the appearance and playing styles of their Led Zeppelin counterparts.
In eighteen successful years of touring, they have perfected their art. As one of the longest tenured Zeppelin tributes, Zoso’s 2400 live shows around the world, including a slot at Bonnaroo in 2003, have established them as the most traveled and successful band in the market. Zoso’s live shows are not about simply playing the right notes, they are about aura and feeling, harkening back to the unique atmosphere Led Zeppelin created. It’s in the way they play: Each band member’s mastery of authentic vintage instruments coupled with spot on vocals, guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards, their compelling stage persona and distinct Led Zeppelin sound, with astounding visual imagery recreates the music, magic, and mystery of a Zeppelin concert. The impact is so powerful that band members constantly hear from young rockers that they were the catalyst behind turning them into new, diehard Zeppelin fans. Their passion, musical ability, showmanship, and precise attention to detail earned them critical acclaim, name recognition and a loyal national following.
The Los Angeles Times hailed the group as being "head and shoulders above all other Zeppelin tributes," and the Chicago Sun Times declared Zoso is "the closest to the original of any tribute." If you missed Led Zeppelin live in the 70's or are looking to relive the "Hammer of the Gods" phenomenon, you must experience what the St. Petersburg Times calls "the most exacting of the Zeppelin tribute bands in existence."

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining"!
