Upcoming McCauley Lecture Explores
Pennsylvania German Decorative Arts
Washington County Free Library’s John Clinton Frye Western Maryland Room continues its longtime McCauley Lecture series with a presentation by Jean Woods on the history of Pennsylvania German Decorative Arts. The lecture will take place in the Alice Virginia and David W. Fletcher Branch Library’s Community Room on Monday, May 2, 2022 at 7 PM.
The Pennsylvania Germans use of bright colors and design led to a particular American folk art. Their farming methods and inventions like the Conestoga wagon and the long rifle, propelled progress in the Colonies. Nearly 100,000 would settle in Pennsylvania prior to the American Revolution and many relocated to Washington County, Maryland.
Jean Woods will showcase some of the objects they made from furniture to fraktur and pottery to metalwork. Ms. Woods organized and curated the Germanic Heritage exhibition in 1983 marking the 300th anniversary of Germanic immigration to Pennsylvania, as well as exhibits on fraktur and Cumberland Valley pottery when she was Director of the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, a position she held for 21 years.
Prior to retirement, she spent 14 years doing art consulting for museums and private collectors. In addition, Ms. Woods has documented fraktur, a favorite research topic for her, for collectors and historical societies, as well as written on the subject. In April, she had an article published by Maine Antique Digest on a Lancaster County fraktur.

Based on the smash DreamWorks animated motion picture, Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR. follows all of your favorite crack-a-lackin’ friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar.
Alex the lion is the king of the urban jungle, the main attraction at New York's Central Park Zoo. He and his best friends — Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo — have spent their whole lives in blissful captivity before an admiring public and with regular meals provided for them. Not content to leave well enough alone, Marty lets his curiosity get the better of him and makes his escape — with the help of some prodigious penguins — to explore the world.

The Maryland Theatre presents Trace Adkins
Tuesday, June 7, 2022
7:00 PM
| |
|
About the Show...
In his 25-year career in Country music, Trace Adkins has sold over 11 MILLION albums, charted over 20 singles, earned numerous awards and GRAMMY nominations, and garnered over TWO BILLION streams. A Grand Ole Opry member for nearly two decades, the Louisiana native is known for dynamic baritone and fiery, always-memorable live performances, and has expanded his Country career to include film and TV acting. He broke out in 1996 with the debut album, DREAMIN’ OUT LOUD, cracking the Top 5 of Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart with “Every Light In the House Is On” and following with the #1 smash, “This Ain’t (No Thinkin’ Thing).” Since then, Adkins has pioneered a mix of classic Country minded traditionalism and adventurous, good-natured showmanship, breaking open new avenues in modern Country through fun-filled hits like “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” and “Hillbilly Bone” (with Blake Shelton). He’ll celebrate the silver anniversary of his album debut in 2021 with THE WAY I WANNA GO, doing exactly what he always has – mixing pure-Country reverence with standout collaborations featuring Blake Shelton, Melissa Etheridge, Snoop Dogg, Stevie Wonder on harmonica and more. Adkins’ newest single “Where The Country Girls At” (featuring Luke Bryan and Pitbull) is available everywhere now.

The Lettermen
Sunday, June 12, 2022
| |
For more than 50 years, The Lettermen-- Donovan Tea, Bobby Poynton, and Rob Gulack, each of whom are entertainers in their own right—have kept the meaning of harmony alive with their soft, romantic, harmonic blend of music which is as popular with their fans today as it was in 1961 when they recorded their first hit, “The Way You Look Tonight”. Though musical tastes have changed over the years, The Lettermen legacy continues. Harmony will always endure the true test of time—just as The Lettermen have stood the test of time. | |
