WELCOME TO BeHERE NV!

The Behavioral Health Education, Retention, and Expansion Network of Nevada (BeHERE NV) is a new workforce development initiative to increase the number of providers of behavioral health care in Nevada. In 2023, the Nevada Legislature unanimously passed Assembly Bill 37 to create a statewide behavioral health workforce development center within the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE). In September 2023, the NSHE Board of Regents designated the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) to serve as the administrative hub for BeHERE NV and to build connections across the state.

BeHERE Scholars Graduate!

BeHERE NV was fortunate in 2024 to receive funding for scholarships from the Nevada Department of Health and Humans Services through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Nevada Health Workforce Pipeline Grant (SG-2024-00437). We are so excited to celebrate one of our scholars who is graduating this month. Below they share what is next for them on their career journey to care for Nevadans.

Luisa Alvarez Valles

School of Social Work

University of Nevada Reno

Congratulations to Luisa on this exciting milestone! After graduating, Luisa plans to begin her career in social work. By the end of August, she expects to have taken and passed her social work licensing exam, marking the start of her professional journey. Her goal is to find a position where she can apply her social work skills, ideally at one of the hospitals in the Las Vegas Valley. While that is her preferred path, she is also keeping an open mind to other opportunities that will allow her to continue learning and growing in the field. Luisa is excited to begin this next chapter and make a meaningful impact in her community.

BeHERE NV Presents at the Nevada ACTE Conference

Dr. Jill Manit and Mrs. Roni Green (Human & Social Services CTE instructor at Reed High School), co-presented "Building Nevada's Behavioral Health Workforce through CTE" at the 2026 Nevada ACTE Conference.

The presentation highlighted the innovative partnership between BeHERE NV and Reed High School as a model for expanding Human & Social Services CTE programs across Nevada to strengthen the state's behavioral health workforce pipeline. By connecting students to behavioral health careers through awareness, hands-on learning, and micro credentials, the partnership demonstrates the potential for CTE as an effective strategy for addressing Nevada's workforce shortages.

Research has consistently shown that high-quality CTE programs prepare students for successful careers while contributing to higher graduation rates, increased postsecondary enrollment, improved credential attainment, and stronger workforce readiness. Through partnerships between education and industry, BeHERE NV is helping expand opportunities for students to pursue behavioral health professions that will serve Nevada communities for years to come.

Welcoming a New Behavioral Health Resource

Dr. Sarah Hartzell attended the open house for Steppingstone Behavioral Solutions, a new outpatient mental health and substance use treatment clinic in Reno. She is pictured with April Lang-Barroga, the Clinical Director, and Shannon Lepe, one of the therapists.
