August Repair Cafe News

Annie McCurdy (above, left) and Joanne Louis-Paul (above, right), board members of Hudson Valley Sustainable Fashion Week, joined us at July's Rivertowns Repair Cafe at Eileen Fisher Headquarters in Irvington. Annie McCurdy, who also runs So Vicki Fashion, taught workshops on visible mending and other hand sewing techniques during the cafe.

July's calendar was leisurely with cafes spread out over location and time. But we still held well attended cafes in Stanford, Port Jervis, Warwick, Livingston Manor, New Paltz, Irvington, Esopus and Yorktown.

RCHV partners with Radical Jewelry Makeover and New Paltz Metal

You may notice a few new notes on the calendar below, including references to Rhinebeck and Gardiner Repair Cafes as collection sites for 'unwanted jewelry.' This month, RCHV is proud to partner with SUNY's New Paltz Metal program as they join the ranks of schools participating in Radical Jewelry Makeover, an international recycling and mining project focused on education and collaboration. The students will sort the donated materials and then go to work making them into new pieces of jewelry which will then be exhibited at SUNY New Paltz. We are collecting all kinds of jewelry, broken included, along with a filled out donation form which will also be available to fill out at Rhinebeck and Gardiner. For additional drop off sites, including one in Kingston as well as a mail-in address, and FAQs, please visit this site but please be aware the deadline for receiving all donations is September 1st.

August is another slow summer month but we don't ever take an actual break from doing our part for the environment, and neither should you! Cafes can be found the whole month long from Schenectady to Gardiner and many places in between, including a NEW cafe in Ellenville!
