"Last year, when our application was accepted and we were approved for a grant, it allowed True Beginnings to provide safe housing to justice involved women for another year, but deeper than that, we were able to focus on reunification and reentry, knowing that the rent on Divinity House was taken care of. While we focused on providing assistance rather than making money, we were able to assist several clients with things such as reunification as well as getting their GED.
One of our residents came in, unemployed and stressed about her daughter who lived in another state and was a ward of the court. Through our diligence we were able to assist her by getting her plane tickets to see her daughter and be present at the court dates. Since then, the case has been dismissed, she has found employment and is now working on permanent housing. The best part is, we had room for her daughter to join us, and she has been such a wonderful addition to the house. We are family because of Serving USA, not just a program."
