Will she still be the “crossing guarder”?

Dear Friends,

Many of you cross my path on the corner of 12th and G Streets before and after school each day. Helping families cross the street safely is my primary purpose there, but it is definitely not my only reason for standing there with an orange flag in hand. I really love getting to see so many people, especially the students, as they arrive in the morning. It is always an entertaining way to begin my day, and I get some really funny quotes and warm moments out of the experience. Some examples:

  • One family shared that their daughter wondered if I would still be the “crossing guarder” this year. (First off, I like her ability to create good job titles. The answer is yes; I think it’s one of my favorite tasks.)

  • One little boy shows me his ever-changing toy vehicle of the day, always clutched in his tiny hand as he walks by on his way to PreK.

  • The set of sisters who never fail to say “Thank you, have a good day!” to me every time I help them across 12th street.

  • Another little boy gives me a great hug and tells me he loves me every morning. (I love him too.)

This is a small job I do, but it is done with great love for our school community.

Thanks for being here; I’ll see you at the corner.

St. Patrick, pray for us!

Barbara Bolaños

Principal
