It’s been an exciting month here at our Oceano Unit! As part of the Boys & Girls Clubs of South San Luis Obispo County, we’re proud to create a space where every youth feels welcome, encouraged, and celebrated.
Our enrichments have been full of fun and discovery! Youth are exploring the world through Traveling Artist, learning about different cultures and art styles, and building teamwork skills in Field Sports. In Character & Leadership, we’ve been diving into Character, Respect, Caring, Kindness, Trustworthiness, Citizenship, and Responsibility, helping youth grow into kind, thoughtful leaders both in and out of our program.
We’ve also had some amazing enrichment activities this month! In Cooking, youth are learning hands-on kitchen skills and new recipes — and of course, the best part is enjoying what they make together! Meanwhile, STEM is sparking curiosity through exciting, hands-on experiments that inspire creativity and problem-solving.
Each activity helps us live our mission of inclusivity, learning, and positive encouragement, while giving every child new ways to shine.
Thank you for being an important part of our Club family - we’re so proud of everything our youth are learning and achieving this season!

Behind the Blue Door at Fairgrove
We’ve been busy with new and exciting enrichment opportunities! Our youth have been enjoying engaging morning activities and recently had the chance to showcase all their hard work during Lights On Afterschool. This year’s theme, “What Does the Club Mean to You?”, gave our members an opportunity to reflect on what makes our program special while spending the day playing games and crafting with their families.
We’re also thrilled to celebrate our Youth of the Month, Noah! Noah joined the Club this year, and we are so happy to have him as part of our Fairgrove family. He is kind, helpful, and a great example to his peers - truly embodying what it means to be a Club member.
As we head into the fall season, we’re looking forward to all the fun, growth, and learning it will bring. Thank you for your continued support and for sharing your amazing kids with us every day!

Our Grover Beach Unit continues to provide exciting and enriching experiences for our youth - from creative art projects to developing essential life skills like cooking. As we move into our next session of enrichment programs, we’re thrilled to introduce even more engaging activities designed to inspire teamwork, fitness, and creativity as we enter the fall season.
We’re also proud to celebrate our Youth of the Month: Charlotte. Charlotte stands out in her peers for her kindness, responsibility, and willingness to help both her teacher and peers. While she may be quiet at times, she truly shines during enrichment activities, showing great teamwork and compassion. Charlotte, thank you for being such a wonderful example for others - we appreciate you and all that you bring to our Club community!
Thank you to all our families and staff for your continued support. Together, we’re helping our youth grow, learn, and lead with confidence every day.

Our fall program is off to an incredible start! A heartfelt thank you to all the parents, families, and youth who joined us for our Lights On After School celebration. Your energy, enthusiasm, and support made the event truly special. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces coming together to celebrate the importance of after-school programs and the amazing work our youth do every day.
As we look ahead to November, we’re filled with excitement for what’s to come behind the blue door at Grover Heights! We have new enrichment opportunities, engaging activities, and several new community partners joining us to share their talents and passions with our youth.
Most importantly, we look forward to seeing our youth continue to grow—exploring new interests, building skills, and forming lasting friendships. Together, we’re creating a safe, supportive, and inspiring space where every child can thrive.

Behind the Blue Doors at Shell Beach
October was an inspiring and creative month at Shell Beach! Our youth explored a world of art and imagination by learning about different cultural art forms. They practiced weaving techniques to create colorful Peruvian blankets, crafted intricate paper dragons through folding activities, and experimented with Salamat—a stunning art project using crayons and black paint to explore the hydrophobic properties of oil-based materials. Each activity beautifully blended culture, science, and creativity, giving our members the chance to express themselves while learning hands-on concepts.
The fun didn’t stop there! Our sports and recreation enrichment sessions were filled with energy and teamwork, with kickball quickly becoming a Club favorite. In Fairy Tales and Legends, members used STEM kits inspired by classic stories like Goldilocks and the Three Bears to explore engineering and problem-solving through storytelling.
To celebrate all this creativity, our dedicated staff curated a breathtaking Youth Art Wall for our annual Lights On Afterschool open house. Families and visitors were delighted to see the vibrant display of youth creations - each piece reflecting imagination, skill, and the incredible learning experiences happening every day behind the blue doors at Shell Beach.

As the crisp fall air settles in, we’re wrapping up an amazing month filled with creativity, curiosity, and connection. From artistic expression to hands-on STEM fun, our Judkins teens have made October one to remember. Through our Traveling Artist series, teens explored art styles from around the world and expressed their individuality in unique and inspiring ways. Their final pieces were truly spectacular and showcased the creativity that makes our Club special.
Science also came alive in our STEM workshops, where curiosity met innovation. From water to volcanoes, worms to fossils, and air to electricity, our teens enjoyed experimenting with different materials and discovering how things work. In the spirit of fall, they also reimagined classic fairy tales, transforming traditional stories into creative modern versions with new characters, settings, and surprising plot twists.
To round out the month, teens stayed active through field sports and explored healthy eating in our culinary program, learning practical skills while preparing nutritious dishes. As we move into November, we’re proud of the enthusiasm, teamwork, and imagination our Judkins teens continue to show each day. Thank you for your ongoing support- together, we’re helping youth learn, grow, and shine this season.
