Do you know someone who has what it takes to be a Bridge Builder?

Rutgers Office of University Equity and Inclusion is pleased to announce its inaugural ‘Bridging the Gap Staff & Faculty Fellows’ program. Made possible through a grant from Interfaith America, the Bridging the Gap (BTG) program strengthens participants’ skills to engage in difficult conversations and navigate tension productively. Fellows will participate in the program throughout 6 sessions beginning in January 2025, culminating in facilitating their own Bridging the Gap circle (Spring semester 2025) and receiving funds to implement a BTG activity in their own area (Fall semester 2025).

We are looking for bridge builders who:

Respect diverse identities and recognize that difference enhances our experience in the Rutgers community, rather than divides us;
Are interested in engaging across difference by getting curious;
Believe that we are enhanced by listening carefully to those we disagree with;
Foster mutual dignity by seeking understanding; and
Agree that we can fundamentally disagree with someone and still honor their dignity/our shared humanity.

Eligibility

Open to all Faculty & Staff, with priority given to individuals who are uniquely positioned to integrate Bridging the Gap programming into key areas of curricular and co-curricular life, e.g.:
New Student Orientation
Living & Learning Communities
First year and graduate seminars
Days of Learning
Student organization advisement
Faculty orientation
Teaching and learning development
Student success

NOMINATE HERE

Eligible nominees will receive an application and have the opportunity to accept the nomination by applying to the fellows program or decline the nomination.

Fellows will receive the final acceptance notice in December 2024.
