Join Vista's CERT Team-Be Ready to Help When it Matters Most

In an emergency, every second counts—and trained volunteers can make a life-saving difference. That’s why the City of Vista invites residents to join the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

CERT volunteers are trained in essential skills like light search and rescue, fire suppression, and basic medical triage. Developed from a national FEMA program led by experienced Vista Fire Department personnel, CERT prepares everyday residents to step up when disaster strikes. Training also includes building emergency kits, improving home safety, and strengthening neighborhood preparedness. Whether supporting first responders during a wildfire or helping neighbors after an earthquake, CERT members are

ready to act quickly and effectively.

Volunteers stay involved year-round with refresher courses, advanced training, and regional disaster drills, ensuring their skills stay sharp and their community stays protected.

Don't Feed the FOG! Keep Fats, Oil, and Grease Out of the Sink

Cooking at home? Don’t let FOG—Fats, Oil, and Grease—go down the kitchen drain. When poured into sinks, FOG sticks to pipes and causes blockages that can lead to costly backups and sewer overflows.

Instead, try these simple, eco-friendly ways to Fight FOG:

  • Compost It: For small amounts of oil, soak it up with paper towels or napkins and toss them into your green compost bin.
  • Reuse It: Let your used cooking oil cool, strain out food particles (which can go in the compost), and store the clean oil in a container for reuse.
  • Trash It: For larger amounts, pour cooled oil into a sealable container (like an empty can or bottle) and dispose of it in the trash.

Let’s work together to keep Vista’s sewers clean and our environment flowing smoothly. Small changes in your kitchen can make a big difference!
