Vista Honors Veterans with Moving Ceremony on Veterans Day
On Veterans Day, November 11, 2024, the City of Vista hosted the "Salute to Service: Veterans Day Ceremony" at Veterans Memorial Park. Mayor John Franklin served as the master of ceremonies, guiding a meaningful program to honor veterans. The event began with the presentation of the colors by the HMLA-369 Gunfighters from Camp Pendleton and received logistical support from Boy Scout Troop 799.
The ceremony featured remarks from notable speakers, including Senator Catherine Blakespear and representatives from Congressman Mike Levin, Assemblywoman Laurie Davies, and Supervisor Jim Desmond. City leaders also participated, with Deputy Mayor Katie Melendez and Council Members Joe Green, Corinna Contreras, and Dan O'Donnell addressing the audience. The Vista City Council presented a proclamation in support of veterans to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 741 and the American Legion Post 365, both located in Vista. The audience also heard from Angela Pinamonti whose family donated Veterans Memorial Park to the City of Vista.
As a special tribute, all veterans in attendance were honored with City of Vista Challenge Coins, symbolizing the community's gratitude for their service. Lieutenant Colonel Christopher N. Hart, Commanding Officer of Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 369 at Camp Pendleton, served as the featured speaker. The keynote address was delivered by Brigadier General J.W. Bullard (Retired), former Commanding General of Marine Corps Installations West-Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
The ceremony was a heartfelt recognition of the service and sacrifices of veterans, fostering unity and appreciation throughout the Vista community.
