City Council Recap: Protected Bike Lanes

At its May 27, 2025, meeting, the Vista City Council revisited the topic of the City’s protected bike lanes, which have recently been installed in select areas to enhance safety for all road users. The Council voted 4-1 (Councilmember Fox opposed) to move forward with an educational campaign and to continue the installation of the previously approved protected bike lanes with specific modifications to the segment on Melrose Drive.

The approved changes include removing all berms and delineators between Shadowridge Drive and Dawson Drive and removing berms—but keeping and adding delineators—between Dawson Drive and Faraday Avenue.

The Council had previously approved the implementation of protected bike lanes at public meetings held on March 28, 2023, and October 22, 2024. The unanimous decision then supported adding protective features to specific corridor segments in response to safety concerns.
