Vista Partners with I Love a Clean San Diego to Fight Cigarette Waste
The City of Vista has teamed up with I Love a Clean San Diego to tackle the issue of tobacco litter on our streets and in our storm drains. Did you know cigarette butts are the most littered item in the world? While their filters may look like cotton, they are actually made of plastic.
To combat this problem, cigarette butt ash cans have been installed in high foot-traffic areas throughout the city. These ash cans provide an alternative to disposing of cigarette butts in planters, on streets, or sidewalks.
I Love a Clean San Diego will maintain and service these cans, and all collected cigarette butts will be sent to a specialized recycling facility. Here, they can be transformed into outdoor furniture, shipping pallets, and more.
Want to get involved? You can become a “Butt Canister Ambassador” and support this important mission. Sign up below.

Help Make a Difference: Join the "We All Count" Event in January
Every year, communities across the nation come together for the We All Count event—a critical effort to understand and address homelessness. This year, we’re inviting you to participate in this meaningful initiative and help shape the future of services for our most vulnerable neighbors.
What is the We All Count?
The PIT (Point-in-Time) Count is a nationwide event conducted on a single night each year. Volunteers set out early in the morning to count individuals experiencing homelessness, whether they are living on the streets, in vehicles, shelters, or other temporary accommodations. The data collected during this event is essential for guiding funding decisions, improving services, and ensuring that no one is overlooked in the fight against homelessness.
How Can You Get Involved?
This year’s count will take place on Thurs., January 30, from 4:00 am to 8:00 am. Volunteers will meet at the Vista Civic Center's Morris B. Vance Community Room, where a continental breakfast and a quick briefing will be provided before heading out to designated areas across the City.
As a volunteer, you will do the following:
- Assist in counting individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Conduct brief surveys.
- Help connect people with services and resources to support their transition out of homelessness.
Whether you join as an individual or as part of a group, your involvement is vital to the success of this initiative.
Why Should You Volunteer?
- Make an Impact: Your participation generates crucial data that helps improve homelessness services in our community.
- Foster Connections: Volunteering offers a unique opportunity to make a personal difference in the lives of those in need.
- Build a Stronger Community: By participating, you contribute to creating a more inclusive and compassionate city for everyone.
