The festivities kick off the weekend of April 19–20 with a free Mulch & Compost Giveaway, open from dawn to dusk at the vacant lot on Vale Terrace Drive and Williamston Street. Residents are encouraged to bring their own containers and tools to collect garden-boosting mulch and compost provided in partnership with EDCO. Also on April 19, the Alta Vista Botanical Gardens will host a vibrant Earth Day Festival from 10 am to 3 pm, featuring live music, local vendors, hands-on children’s activities, gardening tips, and raffles—all set in the scenic beauty of the gardens. Admission is free and all ages are welcome. Be sure to stop by the City booth!
The celebration continues with the annual Creek to Bay Cleanup on Saturday, April 26, from 9 am to 12 pm. Volunteers will meet at Buena Vista Creek Trail to help remove litter and preserve the area’s natural beauty.
And in honor of Arbor Day, the City is relaunching its popular Residential Free Tree Giveaway Program. Beginning April 23, Vista residents and local businesses can apply to receive a free tree or pollinator plant to enhance their property and contribute to a greener community.
