Join the 2025 Creek to Bay Cleanup in Vista
Make a difference in your community and our environment by joining this year’s Creek to Bay Cleanup on Saturday, April 26, from 9 am to 12 pm.
Hosted by I Love a Clean San Diego, the City of Vista's cleanup site will be at Buena Vista Creek Trail, located across the street from 1280 Hacienda Drive. Street parking is available, and all necessary cleanup supplies will be provided.
This family-friendly volunteer opportunity is a great way to get involved and show some love to our local natural spaces.

- A signed waiver is required for all participants (available at the event or online).

Free Mulch & Compost Giveaway April 4-6
Get your garden growing with the City of Vista and EDCO’s Free Mulch & Compost Giveaway, happening Friday, April 4 through Sunday, April 6, 2025.
This self-serve event takes place from dawn to dusk at the vacant lot on Vale Terrace Drive and Williamston Street. It’s open to all Vista residents looking to enhance their landscaping while supporting sustainable practices.
What to Bring
- Your own containers, gloves, and shovels
- A tarp to cover any open-bed trucks (required)

- Commercial vehicles are not permitted
- The event will be postponed if it rains
Mulch helps suppress weeds, conserve water, and regulate soil temperature. Compost improves water retention, boosts plant health, and enriches your soil—so take advantage of this free resource.

Step Up for a Cause: Deputy Mayor Melendez's Annual Children's Shoe Drive is Underway
Deputy Mayor Katie Melendez is once again stepping up to support local families through her annual Children’s Shoe Drive—now through April 15. This year’s drive is proudly sponsored by North County Ford, whose generous support is helping make a real difference in our community.
In a heartwarming show of support, North County Ford General Manager Frank Pierce donated 100 pairs of new children’s shoes, which will go directly to local families in need. The donated shoes are being distributed through the MAAC Project's Head Start program, which supports early childhood education and family services.
Community members are invited to join the effort by donating new or like-new children’s shoes. Donation boxes are conveniently located at the following locations:
- The Receptionist’s Desk on the first floor of the Vista Civic Center, and
- The VisTix Recreation Office, also located at the Vista Civic Center.

Youth Recreation Scholarship Applications Open April 1
The City of Vista's Youth Recreational Scholarship program provides financial assistance for various youth activities and opportunities. It covers a wide range of offerings, including the following:
- Sports programs and classes offered by the City.
- Club memberships, such as the Boys and Girls Club.
- Camps and summer programs like the Wave Waterpark.
- Tutoring and test preparation classes.
- Sports, visual arts, performing arts, and job training programs.
The goal of the Youth Scholarship program is to remove financial barriers and promote inclusivity, enabling all children and youth to participate in these activities regardless of their financial situation.

Free Youth Recreation Programs Available
The City of Vista is offering exciting, free after-school sports and enrichment programs at the Linda Rhoades Neighborhood Community Center, 600 N. Santa Fe Avenue.
The Hoopz House Basketball Enrichment Program is open to youth in grades 3–8 and runs April 14–June 21, with All-Star Games June 27–28. Practices are held on Wednesdays from 6–7:30 pm, and scrimmages are held every Saturday from 9 am-1 pm. This fun, skills-based program builds teamwork and confidence. The Vista Boys & Girls Club is also offering two free six-week sports and wellness programs for grades K–8:
• Triple Play – Mind, Body, Soul (March 3–April 18): An introduction to recreation and healthy living through basketball.

The City of Vista is excited to share that the Pride of Vista Lions Club is once again hosting the the City's Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19, from 9 am to 11:30 am at the Brengle Terrace Park Softball Fields (1200 Vale Terrace Drive).
This spring tradition promises excitement and smiles for children ages 2 to 10, who can take part in the much-anticipated egg hunt. But that’s just the beginning—there’s something for everyone to enjoy, including the following:
- A festive Easter bonnet contest
- Face painting for the kiddos
- A chance to win a brand-new ride in the bike raffle
- Opportunity drawings with fun prizes
