Vista to Host First Cyclovia Event in Historic Downtown: A Car-Free Day of Fun and Sustainability

Vista's first Cyclovia event is happening on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024, from 10 am to 2 pm in Historic Downtown Vista. This free, car-free event invites the community to explore the area via bike, foot, or other self-powered transportation. The day will feature a bike safety class, scavenger hunt, and various promotions from local businesses, along with activities promoting sustainability and Clean Air Day.

Buena Creek Clean-up Event Recap

The City of Vista participated in the countywide Coastal Cleanup Day on Sat., Sept. 21, sponsored by I Love a Clean San Diego. Over 50 dedicated volunteers, along with the City's Stormwater Division, Public Works Department, and Community Improvement Team, came together to clean up Buena Vista Creek. They successfully collected 1,251 pounds of trash, 105 pounds of recycling, and 30 pounds of green waste. The City's Stormwater Division organizes these cleanups twice a year. Stay tuned to the City's social media and website for details on the next cleanup event in April 2025!

District 2 Traffic Safety Commission Opening

Applications for a volunteer from City Council District 2 are being accepted until Fri., October 18. The term expires March 31, 2025. For more information, please email the City Clerk's Office.

Free Mulch & Compost Giveaway for Vista Residents

The City of Vista, in partnership with EDCO Disposal, is offering free mulch and compost to residents on the following dates:

October 4-6
November 1-3
December 6-8

The event is self-serve, located at the vacant lot at Vale Terrace Drive and Williamston Street, open from dawn to dusk. Bring your own containers, gloves, shovels, and a tarp if using an open truck bed.

Mulch helps conserve water, control weeds, and improve soil health. For more details, contact the City's Public Works Department at 760.639.6177.

Gun Safety Event - Sept. 28

The San Diego County Sheriff's Office, in collaboration with the San Diego County District Attorney's Office, Oceanside Police, and the City of Vista, invites the public to a Gun Safety Event on Sat., Sept. 28, from 9 am to 2 pm at the North County Regional Center, 325 South Melrose Drive, Vista.

Turn in unwanted firearms for gift cards:

$100 for handguns, rifles, shotguns
$200 for assault weapons and ghost guns

Stay anonymous, no questions asked. Free gun locks and security boxes available.
