Civic Center Parking Lot Closure Makes Way for Solar Project

From October 7 through March 1, 2025, the Civic Center parking lot off Alta Vista Drive will be closed for the installation of a solar energy project. This closure does not affect the parking lot adjacent to the Recreation & VisTix offices.

The City advises parents who typically drop off and pick up students in the Alta Vista Drive parking lot to instead use the parking lot at Vista Magnet Middle School, located across the street from the Civic Center. Parents are asked not to use the parking lots of nearby businesses on Alta Vista Drive to avoid disrupting traffic flow for customers and employees.

Once completed, the solar project will supply electricity to the Civic Center, reducing the City's monthly electric bill by $20,000.

Community Engagement Meetings Welcome Resident Feedback

In the month of October, the City will hold a number of community engagement meetings designed to gather resident input on various topics. October's topics include:

  • Comprehensive Safety Action Plan workshop on October 9. This plan aims to improve road safety and reduce traffic-related fatalities and injuries.
  • Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) workshops on October 17, 28, and 29. These workshops welcome input from residents and non-profit organizations as to how the City should allocate CDBG federal funding. These funds support various projects.
  • Age-Friendly Plan workshops for October will be announced soon. The City is currently developing an Age-Friendly Plan and workshops will be held to gather input. Take our survey before it closes October 1.

The City looks forward to resident participation on these important topics.

New City Website Address

The City has changed its website address to vista.gov and asks residents to update their bookmarks accordingly. This change was necessitated by Governor Newsom signing Assembly Bill (AB) 1637 into law. AB 1637 requires all cities and counties to transition their public-facing websites and employee email addresses to a ".gov" or ".ca.gov" domain.
