Serve Your Community: Apply to Join a City Commission

The City of Vista is currently accepting applications from residents interested in serving on two important City commissions.

Homelessness Commission – 7 Openings

Be part of the newly established Homelessness Commission, created to advise the City Council and City Manager on matters related to homelessness. This commission will review issues, provide recommendations, and help advance the goals of Vista’s Strategic Plan to Address Homelessness. The City is seeking seven dedicated individuals to serve on this commission and help shape the path forward.

Senior Citizens Affairs Commission – 1 Opening

There is also one vacancy on the Senior Citizens Affairs Commission, which advises the City Council on matters impacting Vista’s older adult population. The commission provides a valuable platform for raising senior-related issues and enhancing services and resources for this important segment of our community.

If you’re ready to make a difference in Vista, we encourage you to apply today.

Fighting Back Against Elder Fraud: Download the Free Toolkit from the County of San Diego

Elder fraud is a growing billion-dollar industry, and scammers are targeting older adults with increasing aggression—using scare tactics, impersonation schemes, and fake investment opportunities to steal their life savings. In San Diego County alone, more than 1,000 cases are reported each year, with losses exceeding $100 million. The emotional and financial toll is devastating—victims often suffer long-term harm, and the mortality rate for those affected is three times higher.

To combat this crisis, the San Diego Elder Justice Task Force (EJTF) brings together the County’s Aging & Independence Services, District Attorney’s Office, FBI, local law enforcement, and others to investigate scams, prosecute offenders, and recover stolen funds. The EJTF has already prevented many would-be victims from falling prey to these crimes. Share the Don’t Get Hooked Toolkit with loved ones and report suspected elder abuse by calling Adult Protective Services at 800-339-4661.

Help Feed Local Families This August

As the school year begins, many Vista children are focused on new teachers, new friends, and fresh school supplies. But for children experiencing homelessness, something as simple as a warm dinner can make all the difference.

Operation HOPE–North County, located right here in Vista, is currently at full capacity—providing shelter to nearly 45 individuals, including many school-aged kids. Their Meal Provider Program ensures every resident ends their day with a hot, home-cooked meal that brings comfort, consistency, and care.

This August, they need your help. Open dates for meal donations include August 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 23, 25, 28, 29, and 30.

Whether you're an individual, family, business, or service group, this is a meaningful way to support your community.
