Free Mulch & Compost for Vista Residents

The City of Vista and EDCO Disposal are providing free mulch and compost to Vista residents as follows:

  • November 1-3
  • December 6-8

Hours are from dawn to dusk at the vacant lot located at Vale Terrace Drive and Williamston Street.

This is a self-serve, self-load, and self-haul event. Residents must use their own containers, gloves, and shovels. If you are hauling mulch in an open truck bed, please bring a tarp. Commercial vehicles are not permitted.

Mulch application helps control weeds, is a great tool to help save water (2-3 inches of mulch retain soil moisture), prevent erosion, and moderate soil temperature.

Use of compost improves plant growth and health, provides plant nutrients in a stable organic form, reduces erosion, and also helps conserve water by retaining soil moisture.
