Keynote Speaker Announcement

Dr. Céline Koryzma is a clinical health psychologist in the Endocrinology and Metabolism Program within Alberta Health Services in Calgary, AB. She works with an interdisciplinary team to help patients with chronic health conditions make sustainable health behaviour changes. Dr. Koryzma’s background includes advanced training in interpersonal and health psychology. She received her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Victoria in 2013 and completed a portion of her residency training with the Calgary Adult Bariatric Surgery Clinic. She was previously employed as medical psychologist for the Pediatric Centre for Weight and Health at the Alberta Children’s Hospital.


Dr. Koryzma is also a Clinical Lecturer for the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Calgary where she teaches about communication skills and mental health treatment in primary care. Her clinical interests include the psychosocial determinants of diabetes and cardiometabolic risk and the role of motivational and relationship-centered interventions in behaviour change.

  1. Understand the factors that make healthy behaviour change so difficult for so many.  
  2. Apply motivational interviewing and relationship-centered communication principles when discussing health behaviour change with patients. 
  3. Identify the modifiable individual and environmental variables that lead to sustained health behaviour change.

Overcoming barriers to body acceptance and health behaviour change through mindfulness and self-compassion.

Lymphedema & Chronic Edema Management Online Course

U of A Online Microcredential Course for Healthcare Professionals

This medical introduction to lymphedema and chronic edema management is geared toward medical and related industry professionals. The course is delivered online by the University of Alberta on their eClass platform and consists of 4 modules, self-paced over 6 weeks. A certificate of 35 educational hours is given on completion.

Wounds Canada Research Grant Opportunities 2023

Deadline: July 31, 2023


Wounds Canada supports Canadians who have wounds or are at risk for wounds, in part by supporting researchers working in the areas of wound prevention and/or management.

If you are conducting skin- or wound-related research, you may apply for a research grant from Wounds Canada.


There are two grants available:



  1. The Wounds Canada Open Grant ($1000 CDN) - to support researchers in any area relating to skin health and/or wound care or patient advocacy for preventative health care relating to skin health and/or wound care
  2. Wounds Canada Quality Improvement Grant in Honour of Bob Willson ($1000 CDN) - to support researchers in quality improvement measures in the prevention and management of pressure injuries

Learn How to Help Your Patients

Living with Overweight and Obesity Course

Presented by: The Office of Lifelong Learning,

University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry


Learn to help your patients living with obesity is a four-week, comprehensive educational initiative designed to help healthcare providers better manage patients living with obesity.

 

Closely following the new Canadian Clinical Practice Guidelines for Adult Obesity, this new interactive course will provide participants with foundational knowledge in regards to the pathophysiology, drivers, and science of obesity, as well as guide them through a therapeutic approach to assessment and management for both adults and pediatrics. Participants will be provided with an approach, tools, and resources to help better manage patients. The 5As Team has developed a comprehensive educational program that was developed, piloted, and refined for use with medical residents, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members. The training program has now been adapted for the virtual environment. Course fee: $475.00 + GST


The virtual course will begin Monday, September 11, 2023 5:00-6:30 pm MT
