Costa Rica with the Center for Wildlife
Kim’s recent Center for Wildlife eco-tour with Collette began in Tortuguero, where the group reached Evergreen Lodge by boat (pictured above) and explored the waterways surrounded by rainforest. Along the way, they spotted crocodiles, turtles, egrets, raptors and sloths. The journey continued to Sarapiquí for a hands-on cacao experience at Tirimbina Rainforest Center, then on to Arenal, where Lomas del Volcan offered a memorable home base beneath the volcano.
In Arenal, the group walked high above the rainforest canopy on Mistico Park’s hanging bridges, with options to zip-line, hike the volcano’s lava fields or simply relax. They also visited a family-owned organic farm to prepare and enjoy a farm-to-table lunch, learned how sugar cane is pressed, and explored a local coffee farm. The trip continued toward the Pacific coast, with a festive stop in Zarcero and a spectacular sunset at Playa Herradura. Wildlife sightings—from toucans and scarlet macaws to a mama sloth and her baby—made each day feel special.
Kim says it was “a memorable and awesome experience,” and appreciated learning more about Costa Rica’s culture, history and commitment to caring for the natural world. Having helped coordinate the tour, she’d love to help you plan a Costa Rican adventure of your own!
