Butternut Squash Apple Bake

This Butternut Squash Apple Bake combines the natural sweetness of apples with the earthy richness of butternut squash into a dish that’s both satisfying and indulgent. This would be a great side dish for Thanksgiving.

1/2 cup rolled oats

1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional, for crunch)

2 tablespoons brown sugar

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Optional:1/4 teaspoon ground ginger or cardamom (for added warmth)

1. Preheat the Oven

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Lightly grease a baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

2. Prepare the Squash and Apples

  1. In a large mixing bowl, toss the cubed butternut squash and sliced apples with olive oil, honey (or maple syrup), cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  2. Spread the mixture in an even layer in the prepared baking dish.

3. Make the Topping

  1. In a small bowl, combine the rolled oats, chopped nuts (if using), brown sugar, and melted butter. Mix until crumbly.
  2. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the squash and apples.

4. Bake

  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 30–35 minutes, or until the squash and apples are tender and the topping is golden brown and crispy.
  2. Optional: Broil for the last 2–3 minutes to achieve extra crispiness on the topping (watch closely to avoid burning).

5. Serve and Enjoy

  1. Remove the bake from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
  2. Optional: Drizzle with additional honey or maple syrup for added sweetness.
  3. Enjoy every bite of this sweet, savory, and indulgent Butternut Squash Apple Bake!
  4. Perfect as a standalone dish, side dish, or even a dessert paired with vanilla ice cream
