3x Rare & Electrifying White Burgundy Bargains: Jean-Philippe Fichet

“As I have said repeatedly, the Fichet wines are among the very best and purest in Burgundy.”

- A. Meadows, Burghound

Dear Artisans,

This is like going back in time to 2008 and buying Cult white Burgundy names like PYCM, Roulot, Coche-Dury, Dauvissat, and Raveneau for what is now pennies on the dollar. This is fact and not hyperbole.

All the names dropped above have become once-a-year treats that don't make it to the shelf for long, if at all. Even the producers we used to call “overlooked” are becoming allocated, which is the case with Jean-Philippe Fichet's wines. We just received our allocation of three of his stunning 2021s, but only a paltry six-pack or two of each.

Jean-Philippe is the rare grower to bootstrap a new domaine in Burgundy’s modern era, assembling his holdings parcel by parcel over a nearly 40-year career.

Fichet’s style resembles Roulot’s the most, with riveting focus, purity, delineation, and incredible transparency. Today's lineup offers textured, racy, and cult-caliber wines without artifice. So, without further ado, let's get into it because these bottles will be gone before dinnertime:

2021 Jean-Philipe Fichet Bourgogne Cote-D'Or Blanc

A blend of three Meursault vineyards, all with average vine age exceeding 50 years, all planted on deep clay and limestone soils located in "Les Dressoles" (north side of Meursault), "Les Grands Clous Perrons" and "Grandes Coutures" on the south side of Meursault.

Outstanding - Burghound:

**Barrel Sample** "Nuances of white orchard fruit and soft floral scents. Here too there is a lovely sense of vibrancy to the nicely detailed yet rich and voluminous flavors that also conclude in a dry, sneaky long and slightly firmer finale. Also worth a look. Drink 2025+" (6/10/23)

16/20 Points - Jancis Robinson:

"Tank sample. Intense and tense on the nose – really rather lovely wine! Fattens out a bit on the palate but that’s no bad thing. I’m tasting fruit not oak and it’s perfectly ripe. Drink 2023-2027."

  • PRODUCTION: 350 cases
  • Only 24 bottles available

2021 Jean-Philipe Fichet "Vieilles Vignes" Bourgogne Cote-D'Or Blanc

Produced from two parcels of vines that are between 40 to 78 years-old; one across a narrow road from Meursault-Charmes and another within the Meursault appellation. This wine has more Meursault character than the vast majority of Meursault villages wines, as well as the depth and concentration you’d expect from White Burgundy twice the price.

Outstanding - Burghound:

**Barrel Sample** "The extended malo shows as the nose is quite lactic in character and presently dominates the fruit. More interesting are the slightly denser medium weight flavors that are firmer still. This too should be very good for its level. Drink 2026+" (6/10/23)

2021 Jean-Philipe Fichet Auxey-Duresses

Produced from two vineyards of vines that are between 24 to 49 years-old. "Les Nampoillons" is located in the fault running towards St Romain, with full southern exposure; this plot is located on very stony white marl. "Les Closeaux": located at the entrance to the village, on the Meursault side.

91 Points - Burghound:

**Barrel Sample** "This is aromatically cooler still with its array of apple, pear, lemon-lime and iodine hints. The succulent but notably more intense medium weight flavors also flash evident minerality on the youthfully austere finale that also exhibits a touch of austere on the more complex finale. Drink 2027+" (6/10/23)

90 Points - Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy:

"Pretty and pure clean lemon colour. The bouquet is quite stylish too, much more classic than the Monthelie. Builds very well to the back of the palate, with excellent tension. Drink from 2024-2028."

Also: Four Incredible White Burgundy Challengers from Around the World

We need to share with you four of our client's favorite 'best-kept-secrets' in world-class white wines. It may sound trite, but these exceptional wines can stand alongside great White Burgs. The numbers speak for themselves, as well as all the praise and love from the most discerning palates in our database!

First up: Can you imagine making wines so great you get bought by Vega Sicilia, one of the world's finest cult producers?

This wine always steals the show at the tasting events. Oremus is one of the most highly-regarded producers in Hungary's Tokaj region and owns the 'first-growth' vineyards presently there:

#1. Owned by Cult Icon Vega Sicilia: Oremus Dry Furmint

The second wine is a name you likely know and among Spain's greatest producers. We've extolled the virtues of great white Riojas like Marques de Murrieta's Capellania... but Bodegas Muga's Flor de Muga just took the throne!!

#2. Muga 'Flor de Muga' Rioja Blanco Reserva - $49.97 btl

Regarding the Third and Fourth wines, we had completely sold out over the weekend; however, we were fortunate to secure a final allocation of 24 bottles!

These two exceptional white wines hail from Italy's most renowned producers, Vietti. Hailing from the land of Barolo and Barbaresco, both wines deliver a totally unique and memorable experience.

They not only saved this grape from extinction - they became the best.
