Broadband Task Force Assessment

The broadband infrastructure engineering assessment, being conducted by AECOM Technical Services, Inc., is well underway.  Launching in mid-September and working closely with Dane County Planning staff, the consultant is working on the current assessment phase of the project. From this phase we will learn where the existing infrastructure is and where it serves, the capacity and ownership of the infrastructure, and will identify voids or deficiencies in service.

You can see the press release here: https://www.countyofdane.com/PressDetail/11146

The Dane County Broadband Task Force created more than 30 recommendations, which can be found in the Broadband Task Force Report, which is now available along with the report from the UW River Falls Survey Research Center.  Recommendations fell under the categories of Internet service provider collaboration and infrastructure criteria; outreach, education, and alliance building; interim methods to provide service; funding and research; and advocacy.

Many thanks to all of you who attended public hearings and participated in the survey! The Task Force was extended this summer by the County Board to continue working on broadband expansion until the end of 2024.

Kick-off for Dane County Regional Housing Strategy (RHS), Great Success!

On September 28, 2022, at Lussier Heritage Center, over 75 local leaders from the private and public sector launched a year-long strategic planning process to address the housing supply gap, and expand affordable and workforce housing opportunities for Dane County residents. 18 municipalities, including mayors from Monona, Middleton, Stoughton, and Sun Prairie; Town Chairs from Rutland, Springfield and Deerfield; County Board Supervisors; the Dane County Towns Association and the Dane County Cities and Villages Association, were all there to help lead the way. Meeting participants are part of the RHS Housing Advisory Committee which is responsible for overseeing the process, and developing recommendations and strategies to help address the housing crisis. The consulting teams of SB Friedman and All Together, are leading the effort! The night’s table discussions focused on getting to know each other and beginning to identify housing priorities at a local and regional level. Executive Parisi, County Board Chair Miles, and the City of Madison Mayor’s representative Linette Rhodes, laid the ground and set the vision for the work ahead in their opening remarks. Thank you to all!

Check out the RHS website for meeting presentations and summaries, meeting video (available soon), upcoming meeting dates, and the latest news and updates! You can also follow the RHS on Facebook and Instagram. RHS meetings are open to the public.
