Good News! Update on MUHC Clinic

A message from Dr. Anna Towers and her Team

February 25, 2025

Good news regarding the MUHC Lymphedema Program

For almost twenty years, the charitably funded MUHC Lymphedema Program in Montreal has been seeking integration within the Quebec Health care system. Our message has been: lymphedema requires care like any other medical condition.

One year ago, Foundation funding ran out and the Program was in a financial crisis. At the same time, the Quebec Ministry of Health announced significant health care cuts.

The good news is that advocacy efforts and support letters on the part of the CLF, the LAQ, LE&RN, our other international and national partners -- and our patients in particular -- have borne fruit. Although government funding is yet to be negotiated, the Program received good news last week.

ο»ΏFollowing direct intervention by the Director General of the MUHC, we have Foundation funding for another three years, pending government integration.

There is much knowledge translation and advocacy work yet to be done, in Quebec and across Canada. However, this recognition by the hospital of the value of the Program is an important step forward.

Thank you to all, and let us continue to work together, to give each other the courage to carry on!
