In A Pickle: A Pickle Lover’s Guide To Durham Region

The pickle often plays a supporting role to the aforementioned sandwich. But this tangy treat is worthy of the star treatment.

So, in honour of National Pickle Day on November 14 (yes, that’s a thing too!), we have put together a pickle lover’s guide to Durham Region that we think is a pretty big ‘dill.’

Serious pickle purveyors don’t have to settle for eating them straight out of the jar—pickles can be used in pretty much any dish, and here in Durham Region there are plenty of establishments that make or sell pickles and pickle-flavoured foods.

From the traditional jarred condiment to main meal to dessert (really!), you are sure to relish all the options!

Page’s Platefuls: Spicy Thai Inspired Carrot Soup With Carrot Top Salsa Verde

As the winter months approach, it’s always great to have a go-to soup recipe on hand.

Chef Alex Page teamed up with the Durham College Barrett Centre in Ajax to use some of the fall harvest to make a delicious Thai inspired carrot soup.

Carrot is one ingredient that is underutilized and yet they are widely available during the winter months. This soup packs some heat with the addition of fresh chilies grown on the urban farm, but why not crank the heat up even more with a few drops of your favourite hot sauce from Hurt Berry Farm? This one will definitely keep you warm this winter!
