Kings Art Teacher Creates Hero Bearcat
|
|
Kings High School Art Teacher, Carrie Cooke has been selected as one of only 30 artists selected to create public art sculptures that represent everyday heroes as part of the University of Cincinnati's 200 Bicentennial.
Hero Bearcats, a free public art event starring 30 life-sized statues of the iconic Bearcat mascots, decorated by local artists, were unveiled this month across the UC campus and at prominent locations throughout Greater Cincinnati. "Each 200-pound fiberglass statue will celebrate everyday heroes like teachers, nurses, firefighters, police officers and others in colorful, whimsical ways," says Marty Ludwig, UC’s director of trademarks and licensing.
Mrs. Cooke's sculpture, "Super Dad to the Rescue," was created in honor of all the super-dads who take seriously the privilege of being a hands-on pop. She said this experience has been invaluable because she was able to share it with her family, as they helped with the entire process, from suggesting design ideas to sanding and applying the base coats of paint.
Mrs. Cooke said, "I feel absolutely honored to be one of the thirty artists selected to create a hero sculpture to be placed on display around Cincinnati for everyone to celebrate and enjoy. I am extremely grateful to be part of such an extraordinary community and school district with whom I can share my passion for teaching, motivating and inspiring others to be the best person they can be each day."
Proceeds from statue sponsorships benefit student scholarships, the Bearcats Food Pantry and health care services for underserved members of the community.

Congratulations to Kings Senior, Juliana Danko who was recognized twice last week!
She received the
2019 Senior Service Student of the Year at last Thursday's Senior Service Night. It has been a long standing tradition to recognize the student who goes above and beyond the community service requirements set forth by the Kings Board of Education. Kings Community Service Adviser, Lynn Brant reported that Juliana has recorded 761 total hours of service.
On Friday, April 5, Juliana was recognized with the 4th Annual Franklin B. Walter
Scholarship from the Warren County Educational Service Center. One student from each Warren County school district received the award at a luncheon given in their honor. The award honors students who have exhibited superior academic achievement and recognizes the teachers those students have chosen as having a positive impact in their lives. The Addams Family, A New Musical Comedy will be performed by KHS Theatre April 11-13.
The story is about Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, who has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family – a man her parents have never met. And if that weren’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before – keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s ‘normal’ boyfriend and his parents.

Kinship Caregiver Program
|
|
If you are custody provider, this information is for you!
Kings School Resource Coordinator, Becky Lemon reports that Human Services has received a special allocation for a new program called Kinship Caregiver Program. This program has been added to their Prevention, Retention and Contingency Plan (PRC) and will provide help for caregivers.
New additional funds have been designated for this new program to support non-custody Kinship placements until the funds are exhausted. Mrs. Lemon said, "This will help so many caregivers because there are no custody restrictions, which was a major hurdle in the past."
Caregivers must first complete an application. Eligibility is based on the CHILD's income and must be under 200% of federal poverty level to qualify. Eligibility is for 6 month periods and caregivers can continue to reapply. Lemon said, "This is great news! We have so many kinship caregivers that do not meet the past requirement of having full custody. I hope it will help a lot of people!"
For more information contact Human Services at 513-695-1420.
