Online Registration Begins Next School Year
|
|
We are making changes districtwide with our back to school forms.
All schools
in the district will be using a system called FinalForms which will allow you to complete registration forms online.
We are hopeful that this system will save you time and increase the accuracy of the information we collect from the forms you turn in each Fall. You should receive an email from FinalForms to activate your account. We will also be sending you detailed information on the new process. Thank your for your cooperation!

KHS Senior Scholar Athletes
|
|
For the past 24 years, the Kings Athletic Booster Club and the Kings Athletic Department have honored student athletes who have maintained excellent academic standards while dedicating their time and energy to Kings athletics. On Wednesday, May 15, the Annual Senior Scholar-Athlete Luncheon was held at TPC Rivers Bend. Thirty-five students were recognized at the luncheon with their parents and a Kings staff member who has particularly influenced their academic and athletic success.
To qualify for this award, an athlete must have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.850 or better for seven semesters at KHS while earning a minimum of five varsity letters in multiple sports, or four varsity letters in one sport. This year's group have an average GPA of 4.29!
Tyler Miller, Kings Athletic Director said, "This group exemplifies what our student-athletes stand for and is by far my favorite event of the year!"

Last week, the first grade classes at South Lebanon Elementary participated in an Animal Wax Museum. The students researched an animal, wrote a report, and presented on their chosen animal to parents, friends and teachers.
The students were very creative with their presentations and costumes. You could find many different animals such as giraffes, eagle, lion, snow leopard, and more.

On Thursday, May 16, the Kings High School Baccalaureate Ceremony took place at Christ's Church in Mason. It was a very special night for the KHS Seniors.
The studentβled Baccalaureate Ceremony is a non-denominational event that provides a personal opportunity for students and their families to reflect on graduation as a rite of passage. Students gave speeches, sang, and performed for their parents , teachers, and peers. A highlight of the night is the
senior video.

CIS 5th Graders Learn About Marine Biology
|
|
Fifth grade students on Team Positive at Columbia Intermediate School got a treat from guest speaker Erin Linneman, a Nurse and Marine Biologist.
Mrs. Linneman talked to students about the career of marine biology, invasive species, conservation, and various water ecosystems. Students concluded by learning how biologists classify animals into their own groups with activity with their shoes.

Matt Obringer
, project manager of Union Village Development Company spoke to
Angie Guilfoyle's
Architecture students this week at Kings High School.
The students are currently working on a project that is based on the concepts of New Urbanism and Union Village is a great example for them to follow.
This one-of-a-kind community being built in Warren County within the next year will reflect the design principles of small towns from over 100 years ago. A small footprint of land, walkability, mixed housing, quality architecture, and urban planning will create a community that provides sustainability and a better quality of life. Union Village will be located across from Otterbein Retirement Community.
Obringer discussed the consequences of urban sprawl, and how urban planning can result in more beneficial and attractive land use.βThe idea of creating urban places is not a new one,β Obringer said. βItβs how towns, cities and neighborhoods across the country were traditionally built.β

Kings High School Herpteology Club was started early this year by Senior, Caroline Mott with a mission to share information about reptiles and amphibians and break down fear of snakes. The club just finished up a fun and educational year with a behind the scenes tour of the Cincinnati Zoo Reptile House. Club members and advisers had a hands on learning experience; chatting with keepers and interacting with several species of reptiles including a king snake, black rat snake, crocodile skink, and pancake tortoise.

KHS Knight Times Has a New Website
|
|
The Kings High School Journalism students have been working all year on creating a new website this year for the student-created online newspaper,
The Knight Times
.
They have put the first round of stories up on their new platform. KHS Journalism teacher, Andrea Nichols said, "I'm proud of the writing they produced for these senior personality profiles." You can click into any section to see some of the previous writing they've done this year, too.

Project Search Graduation
|
|
Congratulations to
Kailey Faul
on her completion of Project SEARCH! Project SEARCH is a one-year High School Transition Program at the Warren County Career Center for students with disabilities who are in their last year of high school. It is targeted for students whose main goal is competitive employment. The program takes place at Otterbein Retirement Community in Lebanon, Ohio where total immersion in the workplace facilitates the teaching and learning process through continuous feedback and application of new skills.
A typical school day includes classroom instruction in employability skills, working on a job site, lunch with co-workers, and feedback from the instructor and job coaches. The rotations are designed to complement each studentβs interests, skills, and strengths. Students intern in 3 jobs during the school year.

Monday, May 13 was a day of celebration at Kings High School. Students from throughout KHS were honored for various achievements and the seniors were honored that evening at the annual Academic Awards Night. Students were recognized for being top students in specific subjects, earning scholarships, and earning straight Aβs, as well as the winners of the Kings Character Award, military appointees, and much more!
Seniors who have already committed to their college of choice were invited to wear a t-shirt that represented their college or military branch. Before the awards program began, these seniors walked onto the stage to be recognized. Congratulations KHS Seniors!

SLE Drama Club Performs Locally
|
|
The students from South Lebanon Elementary's Drama Kids program performed last week at The Children's Theater of Cincinnati.
They performed a skit called
Pirate Joe.
SLE 1st Grade Teacher, Stephanie Riggsby said, "It was super cute!"

2019-2020 Immunizations Requirements
|
|
If you have a student entering 7th and/or 12th grade, you will need to be sure they are up-to-date on vaccines.
Students entering
7
th
grade
will need to have one dose of
meningococcal (MCV4)
vaccine and one dose of the
Tdap
(tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis) vaccine.
Students entering
12
th
grade
will need to have a second dose of
meningococcal vaccine
. The second dose must be administered on or after the 16
th
birthday. If the first dose of meningococcal vaccine was administered after the 16
th
birthday, a second dose is not required.
Ohio law allows a 14 day grace period for the beginning of the school year. If a student does not obtain the required vaccinations and provide written documentation (immunization record) or an exemption note to the school, the school will exclude that student on the 15
th
day of the 2019/2020 school year until the immunization requirement is fulfilled.
Your child may have already received this vaccine at his/her most recent check-up. If not, please schedule an appointment with your primary health care provider. In addition, the Warren County Health Department provides a variety of clinic hours offering vaccinations at a low cost. Their number is 695-1468.
Please send updated vaccination records that reflect that these requirements have been met to your childβs school nurse.

See Mr. Jenkins Before He Heads to NYC
|
|
We told you recently that Kings Mills Elementary Music Teacher,
Matt Jenkins
will be performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City. He will be having final rehearsals and concerts with his choir over the next couple of weeks which will give you an opportunity to see the group sing.

Congratulations to every program in Kings Athletics for being named the 2018-2019 Eastern Cincinnati Conference All-Sports Champions!
The Knights won ECC titles in football, boy's cross country, girl's golf, dance, boy's track, baseball, and boy's and girl's lacrosse.
Kings Athletic Director, Tyler Miller said, "It's an incredible testament to the strength of our program and department. You should take great pride in what you do and the success you've had this year! Every single detail plays into this happening."
