Summer Feeding Program Begins Next Week
|
|
The Kings Local School District, in partnership with the South Lebanon Community Center/Joshua’s Place Community Outreach Organization, is participating in a Summer Meal Program. The program will provide FREE meals to children between 1 and 18 years of age. Youth ages 19-21 with a mental or physical disability who participate during the school year in a public or private non-profit school program are also eligible to receive free meals. No registration is required.
Free lunch will be available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday's at the South Lebanon Community Center, 83 N. Section Street, South Lebanon, OH from June 10-July 26 from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (No weekends). There will be NO bus service this year.
Join us for the Summer Lunch Kick-Off Week from June 3-7 where FREE lunch will be served daily.

Kings Schools Foundation News
|
|
The newly formed Kings Schools Foundation is dedicated to promoting excellence in education and encouraging classroom innovation by providing grants in academics and the arts to teachers that enhance the education of all students in the Kings Local School District.
The Foundation gave $500 to each school building to support students and staff, as needed. They recently opened a grant application process for teachers in the District. A total of $3,568 was granted in individual grants from the applicants.
Winners include:
Shawn Rosekrans
, KME Principal was awarded a grant for sensory paths in hallways. The paths will serve as brain breaks for students with trauma and sensory needs to help them stay regulated and able to refocus on learning in a matter of minutes;
Mike Luke
, CIS Enrichment STEAM teacher was awarded a grant for Sphero Specdrums. They are app-enabled rings that students wear on their fingers to create music anytime, anywhere. Students can then edit and create original works of music;
Jackie Tilling
, JFB Kindergarten teacher was awarded a grant for Kindle Fire tablets to use with students to create electronic portfolios using the Seasaw app. Students can take pictures, draw/ write, and record videos to capture their learning to share with their teacher and parents; and
Karin Gonzalez
, JFB ESL teacher was awarded a grant to build an English Language class library of causal diversity books. The books will represent diverse populations in daily activities allowing students to connect with what they are reading.

JFB Student Receives Special Reward
|
|
J.F. Burns Elementary student, Matthew Gelfgot received a special reward at the end of the school year. Kings School Resource Officer, Deputy Charlie Hale and Teacher, Mrs.Ashley Jordan arranged for Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper, Brett Lee to visit with Matthew as a reward for demonstrating respectful, responsible, and safe behavior.
Trooper Lee also brought along his K-9, Ronnie and shared some ways that Ronnie assists officers in their work keeping our community safe. Matthew is an aspiring police officer and even dressed up as a trooper for Trunk or Treat in October!

Transition and Pathways Graduations
|
|
|
|
On May 23, 2019, two Kings High School students,
Tyler Wooley
and
Lorenzo Borrego
graduated from The Transition Living Classroom program.
The Transition Living Classroom is a classroom for students ages 18-22 who have met their high school graduation requirements, yet need to continue to work on their independent living skills, community social skills, and employment skills. The Transition Living Classroom is located at the Quaker Heights Care Community Campus in Waynesville.
We are also excited to announce that
Olivia DeSouza
will be attending Project Search after two successful years at the Transition Living Classroom program!

Additionally, Kings is excited to share the news that
Chad Handorf
graduated from the Pathways Program.
Pathways to Employment is a transition program for students with disabilities ages 18-22, which offers a variety of supports and services needed to prepare students to live and work in their community. The program provides individualized instruction in the community focused on functional academics and daily living skills such as: budgeting, shopping, travel training, safety, time management, cooking, self-advocacy, socializing, etc. Several short term work experiences (2-3 months per work experience) are provided in the community to learn work skills and determine which work field is best suited to each student’s skills and interests.

Kings Student Registration to Go Online
|
|
We are making changes districtwide with our back to school forms.
All schools
in the district will be using a system called FinalForms which will allow you to complete registration forms online.
We are hopeful that this system will save you time and increase the accuracy of the information we collect from the forms you turn in each Fall. You should receive an email from FinalForms to activate your account. We will also be sending you detailed information on the new process. Thank your for your cooperation!

The Kings Kloset is a student-led nonprofit clothing center that provides free garments and supplies to those in need within the Kings Local School District. On average, the Kings Kloset serves 30-50 individuals a month and they also conduct a school supply drive at the beginning of the year.
Mark your calendars for a special opening of the Kings Kloset for school supply distribution. They will be open on Saturday, August 10 from 9:00-11:00 a.m.

Two Kings Vocalists Perform Locally
|
|
Two Kings High School students who are members of the Young Artist’s Preparatory Program (YAPP) through the Musical Arts Center will be performing in the 2019 YAPP Opera Scenes Showcase in June. YAPP is Cincinnati’s premier youth apprentice program designed for exceptional vocal performers between 15 and 18 years of age.

will perform in the showcase that will be held on June 6 at 7:30 p.m., June 8 at 2:00 & 7:00 p.m., and June 9 at 2:00 p.m. Performances will take place at the Anderson Center Theater, 7850 Five Mile Road, Cincinnati, OH 45230. Tickets can be ordered online at

The Summer Slide is a decline in reading ability and other academic skills that can occur over the summer months when school isn't in session. Numerous studies show that kids who don't read during summer break actually slip in reading ability by the time autumn rolls around.
We have provided you with some

2019-2020 Immunizations Requirements
|
|
If you have a student entering 7th and/or 12th grade, you will need to be sure they are up-to-date on vaccines.
Students entering
7
th
grade
will need to have one dose of
meningococcal (MCV4)
vaccine and one dose of the
Tdap
(tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis) vaccine.
Students entering
12
th
grade
will need to have a second dose of
meningococcal vaccine
. The second dose must be administered on or after the 16
th
birthday. If the first dose of meningococcal vaccine was administered after the 16
th
birthday, a second dose is not required.
Ohio law allows a 14 day grace period for the beginning of the school year. If a student does not obtain the required vaccinations and provide written documentation (immunization record) or an exemption note to the school, the school will exclude that student on the 15
th
day of the 2019/2020 school year until the immunization requirement is fulfilled.
Your child may have already received this vaccine at his/her most recent check-up. If not, please schedule an appointment with your primary health care provider. In addition, the Warren County Health Department provides a variety of clinic hours offering vaccinations at a low cost. Their number is 695-1468.
Please send updated vaccination records that reflect that these requirements have been met to your child’s school nurse.

Kings Students Perform in Footloose
|
|
ROYAL Theatre Company, Home of The Children's Theatre of Mason's, presents Footloose June 7-9 at Mason High School. This production features 20 students from the Kings Local School District from the elementary schools through the high school.
The show will run for four performances – Friday, June 7 at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, June 8 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.; and Sunday, June 9 at 2:00 p.m. VIP reserved tickets can be purchased for $25 each and General Admission reserved tickets can be purchased for $12 each. The Violence Free Coalition of Warren County and the Teen Alliance Council is hosting a FREE workshop, "Safe Summer: SPF 50 For Your Teen's Screen Time" on June 5 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Warren County Career Center.

Registration is now open for any child entering grades 3-6 for the fall season of Kings Volleyball. Registration is held online at

Practices begin mid-August and will be held at either one of our schools or at Sports Express. The season consists of 10 matches plus a tournament, all held on weekends over a six week interval in September and October. We are always in need of coaching talent, so please do not hesitate to sign yourself up! Boys can play in the league; please see the website for further instructions.
