Easter Eggs
Dear Friends,
I was scrolling through online Easter images last night, and came across some amazing pictures of decorated eggs. We're talking hand painted, beaded, gilded, bedazzled, practically illuminated eggs. I couldn't help but then reflect upon the humble Easter eggs of my childhood.
My mother would boil about three dozen eggs on Palm Sunday morning so they would cool by the time we got home from Mass. That afternoon we would drop those old school egg dye tablets into assorted tea cups of vinegar water (anyone else remember that smell?). Meanwhile, if we were feeling extra fancy, we took out some waxy Crayolas and drew our names or childish squiggles on the eggshells before dunking the eggs in the dye.
The Easter Bunny didn't have plastic eggs for our family; instead, our hard boiled, colored eggs were hidden around the house. There was one memorable occasion upon which one of the eggs escaped notice for several days, and let's just say it was well past its "best by" date by the time we discovered the source of a singularly pungent odor. I offered that one to my little brother.
Regardless of the level of artistry, all of our Easter eggs represent the same thing; namely, the symbol of the tomb from which Jesus emerged, a symbol of new life. I hope this Easter brings you a renewed sense of joy in simply being alive in our wonderful world.
With love, Easter blessings, and thanks for being here,
Barbara Bolaños
Principal
Saint Patrick, pray for us!

Shamrocks in the 3rd grade journeyed El Salvadorean by way of food. They tasted a CRS Rice Bowl meal prepared by Liz McDougall, a Saint Patrick Catholic School parent who has been preparing CRS Rice Bowl meals for her children's class for the past 14 years.
Saint Patrick Catholic School participates in the CRS Rice Bowl, the Lenten program of Catholic Relief Services, the official relief and development agency of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. CRS Rice Bowl invites Catholics and faith communities in the United States to encounter God and our global family throughout Lent by practicing the pillars of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.
Lenten alms donated through CRS Rice Bowl support the work of CRS in more than 120 different countries each year. Twenty-five percent of donations to CRS Rice Bowl stay in the local diocese, supporting hunger and poverty alleviation efforts. Since its inception in 1975, CRS Rice Bowl has raised more than $330 million.
CRS Rice Bowl donations are typically turned in on Holy Thursday at the Mass of the Lord's Supper.
