🚨 Scam Alert: Gift Card Fraud Can Happen to Anyone

We want to bring attention to a growing and dangerous trend: gift card scams. It’s easy to believe these only affect the elderly, but the reality is anyone can be a target.

"Recently, one of our clients was nearly a victim of a very convincing scam impersonating a well-known antivirus company. The scammer sent a fraudulent email claiming she owed money and threatened to shut down her computer. They gained her trust, directed her to a fake form, and even gained access to her bank account. From there, they instructed her to purchase multiple $250 gift cards from Target and CVS — a tactic commonly used to avoid traceable transactions."

Thanks to quick action by her niece and her bank’s fraud department, most of the damage was reversed. CVS was able to deactivate the gift cards and issue a refund, though Target’s resolution is still pending.

Unfortunately, the stress from the event led to a physical injury, landing the victim in the hospital.
