Five puppies at the Carson shelter desperately needed a lifeline. After another puppy was euthanized following a reported positive parvo test, their future was uncertain.
We wanted to say YES, but after spending more than $11,000 caring for Charlotte and her puppies, we simply couldn't afford to take on another potential parvo crisis.
That's when Molly from Old Blue Inc. stepped forward. β€οΈ
All five tested NEGATIVE for parvo! They received canine parvovirus monoclonal antibodies and fluids, with Old Blue Inc. covering their medical expenses.
And then there was Teri. β€οΈ Our incredible longtime puppy foster had barely finished caring for Charlotte and her puppies before she opened her home to five more little lives.
Three boys. Two girls. Five precious second chances.
Today, they're safe with Teri, playing, cuddling, and simply being puppies.
To Molly, Old Blue Inc., and Teri: thank you for saying YES when these little lives needed you most.
Four years ago, Cathy responded to a Facebook post seeking volunteer dog walkers.
Today, she's helped approximately 15 foster dogs find their forever homes, coordinated adoption events, and given frightened dogs like Isabella and Habanero the patience and love they needed to learn to trust again.
And somewhere along the way, a foster dog named Vinnie decided he was staying forever. β€οΈ
Some happy endings come with a best friend, daily adventures, morning cuddles...and occasionally a little gardening! πΈ
Phoebe is absolutely thriving in her forever home, where she and her canine companion Mondo have become inseparable.
Her adopter shared:
"I just canβt believe how much I love her. She is a true companion & Mondo & Phoebe just love each other & play & snuggle every day. They bring us so much joy."
Phoebe loves her daily walks, greeting the neighborhood dogs, and racing around with Mondo.
She even has a special bedtime routine: a quick visit to the bed at night, followed by morning cuddles.
And apparently, she's also decided the garden planter is a perfectly good place to lounge in the rain!
Her adopter summed it up beautifully:
"She is the sweetest. Canβt imagine life without my precious girl!"
When Phoebe first came to Labradors and Friends, she was sick, underweight, and needed some TLC. Seeing her healthy, happy, and so deeply loved is the kind of happy ending our volunteers work so hard to make possible.
Venus watched her puppies find loving homes while she was left behind at the shelter.
As a black dog and no longer a puppy, she was overlooked again and again β until Labradors and Friends stepped in just in time.
Now Venus is waiting for someone to choose HER.
This sweet, intelligent girl is friendly with dogs, cats, and people. She can be a little shy at first, but once she feels comfortable, she loves walks, affection, and being close to her people.
Venus is also a talented escape artist, so she'll need a patient, attentive family committed to keeping her safe, including secure boundaries and supervised outdoor time.
Her puppies got their happy endings. Isn't it time Venus got hers?
π Remembering Dottie β The Little Girl Who Defied the Odds
Some rescue stories stay with us forever. Dottie's is one of them. β€οΈ
In 2011, Dottie came to Labradors and Friends as a tiny, three-month-old puppy with both front legs broken. Thanks to the extraordinary care of Dr. Hampel and the love of her foster moms, Brooke and Irene, she was given a second chance.
What began as a temporary foster home became her forever family.
For nearly 15 years, Dottie filled their lives with love, laughter, mischief, and unforgettable memories. From her difficult beginning to the happy, spirited girl she became, Dottie truly defied the odds.
Earlier this month, Dottie crossed the Rainbow Bridge, leaving behind a lifetime of love.
Brooke and Irene have shared a beautiful tribute to their girl, and we're honored to share their words and memories.
Dottie was given a second chance. She made every moment count. πβ€οΈ
