In Memory: Eric Stiff Heart of Service Award and Scholarship

At the League's Leadership Development Institute graduation in December, a moment was taken during the ceremony to honor Eric Stiff, an inaugural LDI graduate and employee of Members Credit Union who passed away February 9, 2022 after a brief battle with acute myeloid leukemia. Working with Members CU and the League, the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation established the Heart of Service Eric Stiff Memorial Scholarship, which will award a $2,000 educational scholarship to a graduating LDI student, starting in 2023.

The memorial fund has already raised nearly $15,000 thanks to initial contributions from the Foundation, League, PFP Services, a donation match of $6,000 from Members Credit Union and recent donations from the LDI graduates and ceremony attendees.

Scholarship Applications Due Feb 1

Through the Foundation and scholarship funds from credit unions in the Carolinas, hundreds of students each year are reaching their dreams of higher education. The 2023-2024 scholarship cycle is now open to qualifying applicants through February 1, 2023. Credit unions are encouraged to share this news with their members seeking financial aid. New resources are also available on the Foundation's Scholarship Resources page to assist credit unions and scholarship recipients as they navigate the application and awards process.

The Carolinas Credit Union Foundation was incorporated in 1993 as a charitable organization dedicated to the embodiment of the “people helping people” philosophy of credit unions. Its mission is to empower and inspire credit unions in the Carolinas through collaborative opportunities to enrich our communities. The Foundation serves as a founding partner to Victory Junction, a year-round camping facility, located in Randleman, NC, for children with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses. Over the last 16 years, more than $5 million has been raised by credit unions in the Carolinas to support its camp and outreach programs. The Foundation also serves as a partner in philanthropy with credit unions, assisting charitable giving through donor-advised funds, managing scholarship programs, supporting small credit unions with professional development grants, and aiding disaster relief for the local, national, and global credit union communities.
