A Toast to History:
The Inspiration Behind Viña Carmen and Frida Kahlo Single Vineyard
Viña Carmen was founded by Cristian Lanz in 1850, who named the winery after his wife, Carmen, a woman whose name symbolizes strength, elegance, and dedication. From its inception, Viña Carmen has been a pioneer in Chilean winemaking, always seeking to celebrate women and their impact on culture. At a time when women's voices were beginning to resonate more strongly, the winery was established with the mission of producing wines that not only delighted the palate but also told stories of courage and resilience.

A Meeting of Minds: Frida Kahlo and Viña Carmen
In this spirit of celebration and homage, Viña Carmen joined forces with The Frida Kahlo Corporation in 2018 to create a unique collection of wines.
Frida Kahlo, born in 1907 in Mexico City, was a trailblazing artist known for her deeply personal and vivid paintings that captured the pain, passion, and beauty of her life. Despite facing numerous challenges, including a severe bus accident and lifelong health issues, Kahlo's artwork resonated with a powerful blend of authenticity and defiance. Her paintings, often characterized by bold colors and symbolic imagery, continue to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide.

|
Like Carmen Lanz, who challenged the norms of her time, Frida Kahlo redefined art with her unflinching self-expression and creative vision. Her legacy as a feminist icon and cultural trailblazer aligns seamlessly with Viña Carmen’s commitment to innovation and excellence. Each bottle of Frida Kahlo Single Vineyard is a work of art, designed to capture Frida’s essence and her ability to transform adversity into beauty. These wines, like Frida’s works, are a testament to persistence and an indomitable spirit.
Through this collaboration, Viña Carmen and Frida Kahlo celebrate the beauty, strength, and creativity that define the human experience. A toast to the women who have left an indelible mark on our culture and to the wines that honor their legacy.

The Art of Winemaking
Maipo Valley is an excellent region, especially known for its Cabernet Sauvignons. The climate and Terrior there are ideal for producing rich, fruit forward wines that can resemble Napa’s, often due to the ripe black fruit, cassis, and earthy tones. The Frida Kahlo Cabernet Sauvignon is an elegant example with ripe tannins and aromas of cherries, fig, baking spice and blackcurrants. We think we found a gem of a wine here!

The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected to ensure the highest quality. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged in French oak barrels, imparting unique complexity and structure.
Intense aromas of dark fruits, hints of spices, and a subtle violet nuance. On the palate, it is elegant and balanced, with smooth tannins and a long, persistent finish.
"Stewed blackberry, dried blackcurrant, porcini, cola and charred bark on the nose. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, sleek tannins and fresh acidity. Chewy, intense and savory with a flavorful finish." 92 points by James Suckling
This Week's Wine Insider Offer
Frida Kahlo Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 | Yankee Spirits Wine Team Tasting Notes | With Vacations in full swing there were not many available to taste the Frida Kahlo Cabernet. Well, they missed out on a real gem. As soon as the bottle opened dark spice surrounded the room. In the glass, this wine showed ample black fruit, grilled bell pepper, black pepper, and charcoal. John C kept saying "Wow, this wine has a lot of dark fruit. " The finish completes the experience with bright acidity and balance. In the end it is an overall harmonious medium bodied Cabernet that is sure to please. Great with roasted veggies, grilled meats and even would hold up to spicy dishes like Tandoori sauces.
