Welcome to our lovely family home

by Judy (Holyk) Smith

Both sides of my family came to Alberta shortly after the First World War. My mother's family settled in Hillcrest in the Crowsnest Pass. My father's family settled in Coleman in the Crowsnest Pass. Both sides of the family were in small business.

Many items, currently now in the home, came from grandma and grandpa Holyk's home.

My father, John Holyk, was the mayor of Coleman before the municipality of Crowsnest Pass was formed. My mother was a school teacher at different periods. She also taught dance in Coleman by commuting to Pincher Creek via the now no longer available Greyhound Bus Line. I was always included in dance classes from the time I was a very young child.

It is my understanding that the plastic circular knobs on the dressing table and bureau on the bedroom furniture were among the very first pieces of plastic ever used.

To the best of my knowledge the furniture was purchased in the 1930's.

Of the smaller items that are still in the home; the teacups and silver tea service, silverware and serving dishes were always kept for family events and entertaining.

Throughout the home, you will discover a treasure trove waiting to be discovered.

The wonderful blend of collections and unique finds creates an eclectic and enjoyable shopping experience.

"Every item has a story, thank you for helping these treasures begin a new chapter."

HOUSE

AND

CONTENTS FOR SALE

Contents are all individually priced in the home

Tucked away along a quiet dead-end street in Coleman, this property offers a setting that is becoming increasingly difficult to find. With no immediate neighbours in front or behind, and located just a short walk from Horace Allen School, this is a home where privacy, space, and mountain views take centre stage.

Built in 1968, this 1,240 sq. ft. home was thoughtfully designed to take full advantage of its surroundings. Large picture windows along the back of the home frame sweeping views to the east and fill the living spaces with natural light, while the back deck provides the perfect place to enjoy morning coffee, sunrises, and the ever-changing mountain scenery.

The main floor features two bedrooms, a full bathroom, and a comfortable layout that has stood the test of time.

Downstairs, you'll find a third bedroom, a second bathroom, a lot of storage space, and a large laundry/craft room, as well as an impressive 32' x 13' family room complete with a fireplace and large sliding doors providing walkout access to the backyard.

The lower level offers plenty of space for entertaining, hobbies, or simply relaxing while enjoying the peaceful setting.

There are subtle mid-century design influences throughout the home, adding character and a sense of individuality. While the property remains largely in its original condition, it has been cared for over the years and is ready for its next chapter.

Whether you're looking to move in and make updates over time, or bring your own vision to life from the start, this home provides a solid foundation in one of Coleman's most unique and desirable locations.

Properties with this combination of views, privacy, walkout basement, and potential in this price range are getting harder to find.

PIANO AND PLAYER PIANO

Heintzman Player Piano with Cylinder Rolls

At least 100 years old, plays beautiful like new!

The family story about the Upright Grand piano/player piano is that it was purchased by my grandmother Pearl Holyk from Colonel MacLeod's wife, was kept by her for years and was given to my father at her death. All of the player piano rolls were included. I remember playing the player piano in my grandparents home for many years

This is a prized piece including all of these cylinders

Great condition and plays beautifully!

The Mahogany Studio Gerhard upright piano

was purchased for me when I was a child from a family in Pincher Creek. Shorty after this piano was purchased we learned this model was being discontinued and remains one of the last of it's kind.

Great condition and plays beautifully!

Will need to be tuned
