What's Happening at NSO?

Mission Moment:

NSO Facilitates Warming Center During Extreme Cold in Partnership with the City of Detroit

During the last two weeks, NSO opened its doors as part of the City’s Warming Center network to ensure our unhoused neighbors had a safe place to escape life-threatening temperatures. What made this effort truly powerful was the community that stood behind it. The success of the warming center services would not be possible without the help of our staff and the generosity of our donors and community partners.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Coordinated Assessment Model (CAM) and the City of Detroit Housing and Revitalization Department for being on-site, offering direct support, and working one-on-one with warming center guests to help them in their efforts to secure permanent shelter for the remainder of the winter.

To our donors and community supporters, thank you for making it possible for NSO to respond quickly and effectively in a moment of urgent need. And to our incredible NSO staff who volunteered, worked extended hours, and stepped up without hesitation, your commitment ensured that lives were protected when it mattered most.

Thank You to Our Warming Center Donors!

When we put out an urgent call for help during the extreme cold, our community responded immediately.

Thank you to the donors who quickly provided hundreds of essential items for individuals using our Warming Center, including socks, clothing, shoes, hygiene kits, water, snacks, wash clothes, towels, utensils, hats, sweatshirts, and gloves.

Your fast response helped us ensure that everyone who came through our doors had what they needed to stay warm, clean, and cared for.

We appreciate your generosity and your willingness to step up when it mattered most.

THANK YOU TO EACH OF OUR WARMING CENTER DONORS:

Hope Multiplied - The Power of 70

For seventy years,

NSO has been committed to the Heart Work of our community and to meeting the behavioral health and wellness needs of nearly 1 million individuals, while also helping hundreds of thousands of people move from homelessness to safe, stable housing. We've supported displaced families during the 1967 riots and created access to neighborhood testing and basic needs throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our history is defined by resilience, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to meeting neighbors where they are in order to support their needs. NSO is still standing strong and still doing the Heart Work.

As we celebrate 70 years of service, NSO faces uncertainty and massive funding changes to support vulnerable populations, which will require us to rely on the generosity of supporters like you. Your contributions will help provide safe housing and supportive care to seniors and persons with disabilities, and restore dignity to those who rely on our safety net services.

Thank you for your generosity and support of NSO.

With Heart,

Linda Little

Linda Little's Recent Efforts Around Trauma-Informed Child Protections and System Reform

Missed it live? You can still catch the conversation. NSO President & CEO Linda Little joined Spotlight on the News with Chuck Stokes to discuss 70 years of impact and how partnerships across housing, health, human services, and education continue to shape stronger outcomes for our region.

Michigan’s children deserve stronger protections from abuse and neglect.

In her recent Detroit News op-ed, NSO President & CEO Linda Little calls for urgent reforms to ensure that Child Protective Services, schools, and other agencies have the trauma-informed training and tools needed to keep kids safe.

Thank you to @detroitnews for shining a light on this critical issue. Together, we must protect our most vulnerable

The podcast welcomes Christina Hines – attorney, advocate, and candidate for U.S. Congress. Tune in for a thought-provoking conversation on leadership, accountability, and giving a voice to The Silent Majority.
