What's Happening at NSO?

NSO’s Clay Apartments Hosts a Powerful Black History Month Celebration

Neighborhood Service Organization and the residents of Clay Apartments came together to honor Black History Month with an inspiring celebration of culture, resilience, and community. Hosted by both staff and residents, the event was a heartfelt tribute to the rich legacy and ongoing contributions of Black leaders and changemakers.

The celebration featured a dynamic program that included a poem by Cairis Cooper, Clay Property Manager; a dance performance by Christopher Jenkins, Clay resident; and a song by Eric Porter, HRS Client Support and Transportation Specialist Manager. These works reflected themes of perseverance, empowerment, and hope—reminding everyone of the strength within the Clay Apartments community.

NSO is committed to fostering spaces where history is honored, voices are uplifted, and community is strengthened. As Black History Month comes to a close, the spirit of this celebration will continue to inspire action and unity throughout the year.

NSO is honored to recognize Nadiyah Tarver and her schoolmates at Detroit Country Day School

Neighborhood Service Organization is honored to recognize Nadiyah Tarver and her schoolmates at Detroit Country Day School for their incredible generosity and dedication to community service. As Chair of the MLK Day Committee, Nadiyah led an upper school-wide effort to assemble and donate over 200 blessing bags filled with essential items for NSO’s homeless clients.

Their participation in the MLK Day of Community Engagement embodies the spirit of Dr. King’s legacy—demonstrating that small acts of kindness can create a lasting impact. NSO is deeply grateful for their commitment to making a difference and for reminding us all that service and compassion can transform lives.

Thank you, Nadiyah and the Detroit Country Day community, for your dedication to those in need!
